Issues With Terrain Builder
I would have liked to have posted on the official Bohemia Interactive forums, however, the Terrain Builder forum won't allow new posts. Hopefully the community hear might have some suggestions. Keep in mind, I'm very new to the terrain builder but I have the basics down after working on some tutorial maps and what not. I'm working on an Island map surrounded by water and I imported official topography into L3DT. I've sized the Heightmap up the original topography data I downloaded to 2048x2048 and generated the proper BMPs for the Satellite Image and Surface Mask Image in Terrain Builder. My issue is that when I finish generating layers in Terrain Builder and go into Buldozer to check out how everything went. The map is incredibly jagged with massive spikes where hills or mountains should be. In L3DT, this is not the case and the topography is pretty spot on to what it should look like. I read on the forums that when scaling L3DT projects, the vertical scale needs to be changed manually. When I do this, my map in L3DT loses its accuracy to the actual topography, however the Terrain Builder heightmap is about where it should be. The only problem is that now, half of my terrain is underwater for some reason, and certain areas of the map are not as pronounced as they should be. I'm hoping some of you might have suggestions.

Edit* I also notice that when I import the heightmap from L3DT the size of the heightmap is 54003.641X54003.641 instead of the 2048 in L3DT and I have to scale it down to match the Sattelite Image and Surface Mask Image I export from L3DT which when imported, stay at their original size of 2048X2048. I thought maybe this might be the issue so I downscaled the height map from 54003.641 to 4096 and noticed some very minor changes. When I try to keep the heightmap as is with its size of 54003.641, it takes to long to generate the layers so I am not able to look at with Buldozer.

If your up sizing your terrain, your streching it. Start with the size your want or bigger. You can always remove bits your don't want in L3DT. You only really need to change the vertical scale if you down size. So if your map is 4096x4096 with a cell size of 10, then you downscale to a cell size of 5, you would then half the vertical range.

Also your sat and surface mask need to be bigger than your height map. You said your wanting a heightmap of 2048x2048, your sat map and surface should be 20480x20480

Awesome, so I tried this out and it worked like a charm. My map is no longer jagged and it looks proper in Buldozer. Thank you so much! Now I just have to figure out how to properly make roads and what not. Terrain Builder sure is a pain in the arse. Anyway, thanks again for the suggestion!
