Arma 3

Looking for unit with JTAC/TACP training or positions
I am interested in an Arma community with a US Army organization structure that places an emphasis on Air-Ground operations and coordination, and that has demand for members interesting in performing TACP roles and positions open for designated Air Force JTACs or ALOs.

Please don't assume that I am, or that I even think I am, some Gung-Ho salty ol' Air Force operator. I'm only a humble ROTC Cadet heading towards a career in Air Force TACP. I have some training and a basic understanding of the career field. (If there are any active duty/retired JTACs out there, please don't get pissed at my avatar. I never claim to be a JTAC and I only advocate the prestigious yet mostly ignored career).

I've been scouring the internet for over a year with little luck, and I feel desperate posting this on Steam, but its worth it if such a unit exists.

***Edit 22MAR15 0845

Just some other things I'm looking for in a group: First, I once attempted to apply with USSOCOM, because they have the exact program I am looking for, however I knew quickly that I could not handle the time requirement they expected. Second, I HATE vanilla Arma 3 (what goon at BIS thought that future BS would interested serious tactical gamers?), and I hardly played it until the RHS mod was released, and I'd also expect any serious units to have their units modded as well. Additionally, I am very interested in a group with members who play other tactical games (Insurgency, Battlefield, Men of War), and who like to play around with other mods (I will be hooked to your unit if you guys enjoy playing with the Russian units in RHS).

Academi Gaming is an Arma 3 tactical realism/milsim group with several distinct units that appeal to different play styles and gaming experiences. Many of us are active duty, reserve, guard, or retired military who enjoy mature tactical and realistic gameplay.

The 4th ID serves as our mechanized infantry unit, employing various armored vehicles while working with the 10th SFG to accomplish mission objectives. The 4th ID operates as our milsim unit as well, with an established rank structure and formal training requirements. The 4th ID has a JTAC position on each squad.

The 160th SOAR is our rotary wing unit which provides the 10th SFG and 4th ID with all their air transport and CAS needs during operations. The 160th also includes a small detachment of pararescuemen who are responsible for retrieving downed aircrew as well as assisting the 10th SFG and 4th ID with MEDEVAC requests.

The 10th SFG focuses on tactical and realistic gameplay but without rank structure or formal training requirements. This unit forms the special operations arm of our ground forces. Employing unconventional warfighting techniques and small unit tactics, this unit assists the 4th ID and 160th SOAR in completing complex mission objectives. This unit also has JTAC positions within each squad.

Our unit conducts scheduled operations every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as intermittently throughout the week usually at 2000 EST/0100 Zulu. These missions are comprised both of cooperative and adversarial hand crafted missions made in house. We use a variety of popular game modifications and addons in use by many other Arma units including AGM, TFAR, and RHS.

If you are interested in joining, all you need to do is make contact with our unit, download our mod pack, and come join us for an operation. There is no formal interview or application process, we do not have a mandatory attendance policy. After you've participated in a few operations we will be happy to discuss adding you as full member to our community.

Feel free to add me on steam, visit our website, or jump on our teamspeak server: ts3.theacademi.com. Keep in mind many of us work during the day so we may not be on our teamspeak between 0900 and 1700 EST.

Thank you very much for your replies gentlemen. I wish I would have asked sooner! I am going to take a look at both of your units, but please know that I don't want to jump the gun, and I'll wait a few days to look at my options :)

I'll also add that I love Russian stuff, so hearing about RHS makes me excited

Thanks for the request Pledge I'll friend if I decide to apply :) Your unit looks really fun, and I'm checking out your site now.

I'm still trying to weigh my options (literallly hundreds of them) so please don't take any disrespect with my questions. However, because Air Force TACP works primarly with the Army, I'm assuming that finding an Army organized unit is my best choice? Also, I checked your unit roster, and I did not see any JTAC or Air Liason or related positions available, but let me know if I'm mistaken.

Smith, so far your unit looks like the best fit for what I'm looking for. Army organized, JTAC positions, and relaxed time requirements are all traits I'm seeking.

Hey Almonte, I logged onto your teamspeak, and eventually found your unit's website, but there was no much info on your website, and I want to give you a good look, especially if you have an Air Force detachement. If you can find the time, please let me know how to learn more.

Yeah, we are still developing our Enjin website. You can come on our teamspeak and you can poke an NCO for more info

Hello Braidon;

The 7th Rangers carry out mostly unsupported ground assault/recon missions. At the same time, we've been slowly developing our own SOAR qualified pilots for transportation and eventually (we hope) some CAS. We have several members who are interested in carrying out JTAC type duties for the team - but due to how our ROE work, I doubt we would be using such a postion in our teams very often (we don't usually need to bomb the hell out of anything). Most of our missions are more like surgical strikes that don't cause a lot of CD.

That being said; we do have some members who want us to take on larger scale type targets like how the US is fighting ISIL (precision bombing, UAV attacks, etc.). Most of these sorts of missions/sorte's are based upon our mission design and the numbers of people we field and limitations of the ARMA 3 game engine.

The 7th use a lot of mods - RHS (both of them), TFR, AGM, our own weapons mods (EricJ weapons and some RH weapons that are based on 'today's' weapons rather than that future stuff). We use advanced flight modelling, advanced AI and operate as close as possible to the OPFOR.

If you think you can be an asset to our team then drop by and talk with us. www.7-75th.com our TS info; la.jestservers.com:7111 Password: hooah - we have an operation going down in about an hour and it will be streamed by at least 1 member on twitch (off our webpage).

Good luck in your search.

I want to thank everyone for the invites. Its great to see so many groups who have established TACP, or who are interested in expanding their Air-Ground capability. And yes, I am still looking for a home. I really want to give everyone a good look. before I choose. Perferrably I'd like to do at least 1 Op with each willing unit before I choose, but that might be wishful thinking.

Here is a list of the groups who've I've interviewed with and plan to do an Op soon:

- Academi Gaming
- 4th Fleet
- 2 BN 5th Cav

Here is a list of those I still need to talk to. If you're not on this list and want to be, let me know!

- Strategic-Gaming (22nd MEU right?)
- 7th Rangers
- Task Force 134
- Liberated Gaming
- 24th MEU
