Arma 3

Should I get Arma 3 or Battlefield 4?
I loved Battlefield 3, but I hardly ever played Arma 2 or DayZ. I have seen videos of DayZ and Arma 2 and it looks really fun. I guess it depends on what type of player I am but I really want advice on which on to get because I can only afford to buy one of these at the moment.

I love realism in games. I am a big fan of a combat flight simulator called DCS, which is an extremely realistic simulator. I love it, as I love aviation. Nevertheless, I do love Battlefield for all the amazing fun you can get out of it. It is chaotic, in a fun way, and I am really liking the destructible buildings in Battlefield 4 and the improvement of more teamwork gameplay in the online BF4 experience.

So my final question, give you honest advice on which one you would recommend FOR ME. Thank you in advance!

(P.S. Should I get the Deluxe or normal version of Arma 3, if that is your advice to me? Thank you)

You should get ArmA3 if you find people who want to play milsim with you. Unfortunately most of the popular multiplayer missions are life/zombie/wasteland kind of thing instead of missions where realism and tactics would matter.

The normal version of ArmA is probably enough. The sound track you can get from the game itself later. The guide is probably going to be underwhelming. CWA is only like $5. and the maps will be online i bet.

Ok thanks, I just bought it!

arma 3 and battlefield 4 can not be compared. 1 is a lot more simulator then the other. bf4 is more fast paced and arcadey. A3 in general is a lil more slow and more realistic. 1 shot 1 kill or half a clip at point blank range. the main difference is the arma community and the many talented scripters and modder that make anything you can imagine possible in arma 3. BF4 does not support modding. i can honestly say that i was told about the great arma community and game about 2 years ago. and it took a little time to realize that, while its not as fastpaced or in your face as COD or BF, i can make any mission i want in arma with its editor. i dont have to play the same level over and over with the same events happening over and over. nd the developers are constantly asking for feedback and trying to fix issues that pop up. DICE the devs for BF do a good job as well. but iv'enever seens devs interact with the community like i have for arma. lets also not forget that arma 3 is also only a beta and it has issues and everyone knows it. but thats also the reason it is a beta, so the devs can address the issues that people find that may not have popped up while testing in house.

why not get both? They're two different games. I played both Arma 2 and BF3 until BF3 got boring...Arma never gets boring with the mods/addons/editor/etc.

I also love the DCS series too!

Hopesfully in the future there will be a way to filter out Wasteland and DayZ servers and leave you with a small dedicated Arma3 community; which has always been the case.

If the filter in game doesn't get the option to exclude criteria, there is always...

No option to filter out wasteland yet but...you never know.

Edit:Arma 2 link for good measure

BF4 for starters. At least BF4 will SHIP with the single player campaign for starters. You can get in some good practice then take it all online for some thrills. Nothing against Arma 3, it's quite fun, with what is packaged so far, but waiting months for the single player experience is just not my idea of what I payed for initially. Still, They're both great games, both VERY different in character. Arma is a lot more realistic and demands tactics and BF4 is just fun. You decide.

Sorry if I get a little angry, but I'm tired of these posts. Can you not read the main menu and see all of these Showcases, plus more to come, plus many many many community-made singleplayer missions alone, PLUS the editor that takes a simple click to place you and an enemy? There's no need for a campaign, even though it is coming. This is a military simulator, not an emotion simulator. A campaign isn't even required, simply an extra added on to what ArmA really is. There's no series to catch on to, there's no story behind it, it's just a long series of missions focused on one "character" and BF4 and ArmA 3 and completely different, BF4 isn't focused on realism, it's more mainstream but adds the realistic aspect, ArmA 3 is built to be realistic, and those realistic needs that aren't seen the modding community puts in or fixes. It's even better in ArmA 3 to get practice online with friends or a good ArmA community veteran to help you out, many people including me welcome new people to ArmA and would gladly help them with controls/roles. Also, did they say how long it would take for the campaign to release? I doubt it, and if they did please link it, or we don't know if it will be the WEEK after release or not.

If I were you i would get Arma 3. I myself just came over from the Battlefield franchise; I got Arma 3 in the alpha stage and i've loved it. In fact I would say I probably have enjoyed arma 3 more than I ever enjoyed any of the Battlefield games in the past. It's just such a good game Graphicly and the community is unbelievable. Most people that you will meet are very friendly.

I bought Arma 3 right after my last post on this thread, so I've had it for a while. I did eventually buy Battlefield 4 for a very good price on some CD key website. It's good, but I'm happy I didn't pay the full price. I like Battlefield, but it is very similar to Battlefield 3 and I don't play it that often. I would love to see something like Battlefield 2143 with a new engine, that would be amazing.

I have to admit, Arma 3 is a better choice than Battlefield 4. Of course, they are two completely different games, and Arma 3 is more of a simulation. I am a big fan of realism and simulation.

The topic of this thread has made me wonder for a while.....as..

I have BF4, and an i7 GTX 780 rig; and would like to know if I can alter the keyboard settings on Arma 3 to suit left-handed players using the number-keypad (and mouse) only.
Before I buy...

I had a few hundred crashes with BF4, and almost all my/our other 50 games have no problems.

Finally;
The "MODS"
Is there a full `Set` of Arma 3 mods which I can buy/obtain which is easy to install; as I have tried `Mods` in the past for games like GTA-4 and Skyrim; but I ended up with a muddled mess.
Noob modder an all that.

Anyone..?

P.S.
Does Arma 3 have a MAP screen for my other monitor, while playing, as per BF4?
S`cuse my ignorance..

P.P. S.
I was unable to ask/comment on other threads as it seems you usually have to buy the game before asking~commenting...
I understand why.... BF `Origin` cretins an all that. Pink panty wearers. Neo-meatballs.

I've never had any crashes to my knowledge but in the alpha, so that was for obvious reasons. You may crash the first couple launches, some do and it's usually the PC getting used to the game. The mods are pretty simply, you download it, open it, and it goes in this folder then you go in-game and enable it. I suppose a second monitor could support a map, not sure never tried. Add me if you get it and have problems.

Thank you for the response.
The glitches I had are/were mainly BF4 and I expect Arma 3 to be ok for the 780 NVidia cards.

I notice a big update to Arma 3 is Due this week....

My main issue is if you can alter all the keyboard settings to the Number Keypad (i.e Left-handed) as many games [Witcher 2 etc etc etc] only allow a proportion of Key-mapping to be altered ?

I like a game with 16 FULLY ADJUSTABLE Key-mappings (at most [as per the number keypad]) [Except for Pause/Exit etc]. (Plus mouse).

The Map screen might be for BF4 only as I don`t know any other games that use it. Not even BF3 uses it.

Might see you online in-game this month if all goes well.

Yes I'm sure you'll be fine with a NVidia, usually the best to use with Arma. There are tons of controls you can change and I'm pretty sure it's every single control in the game listed.
