The normal version of ArmA is probably enough. The sound track you can get from the game itself later. The guide is probably going to be underwhelming. CWA is only like $5. and the maps will be online i bet.
I also love the DCS series too!

No option to filter out wasteland yet but...you never know.
Edit:Arma 2 link for good measure

Naa ill wait for arma 7 as it will have laser guns.
Sorry if I get a little angry, but I'm tired of these posts. Can you not read the main menu and see all of these Showcases, plus more to come, plus many many many community-made singleplayer missions alone, PLUS the editor that takes a simple click to place you and an enemy? There's no need for a campaign, even though it is coming. This is a military simulator, not an emotion simulator. A campaign isn't even required, simply an extra added on to what ArmA really is. There's no series to catch on to, there's no story behind it, it's just a long series of missions focused on one "character" and BF4 and ArmA 3 and completely different, BF4 isn't focused on realism, it's more mainstream but adds the realistic aspect, ArmA 3 is built to be realistic, and those realistic needs that aren't seen the modding community puts in or fixes. It's even better in ArmA 3 to get practice online with friends or a good ArmA community veteran to help you out, many people including me welcome new people to ArmA and would gladly help them with controls/roles. Also, did they say how long it would take for the campaign to release? I doubt it, and if they did please link it, or we don't know if it will be the WEEK after release or not.
I bought Arma 3 right after my last post on this thread, so I've had it for a while. I did eventually buy Battlefield 4 for a very good price on some CD key website. It's good, but I'm happy I didn't pay the full price. I like Battlefield, but it is very similar to Battlefield 3 and I don't play it that often. I would love to see something like Battlefield 2143 with a new engine, that would be amazing.
I have to admit, Arma 3 is a better choice than Battlefield 4. Of course, they are two completely different games, and Arma 3 is more of a simulation. I am a big fan of realism and simulation.
I've never had any crashes to my knowledge but in the alpha, so that was for obvious reasons. You may crash the first couple launches, some do and it's usually the PC getting used to the game. The mods are pretty simply, you download it, open it, and it goes in this folder then you go in-game and enable it. I suppose a second monitor could support a map, not sure never tried. Add me if you get it and have problems.
Yes I'm sure you'll be fine with a NVidia, usually the best to use with Arma. There are tons of controls you can change and I'm pretty sure it's every single control in the game listed.
