Best DLCs for playing modded content?
I only have budget for maybe a couple DLCs + base game so I'm wondering which ones are "essential" and which ones are required to play with mods the most. Thanks!

Yup, apex. The rest are creator dlc/mods sponsored by Bohemia Interactive. There are free mods with better quality than those for sure. Don't waste your money on CDLC/Creator DLC's

Skip the Creator DLC's if your budget is limited. The Malden and APEX DLCs have the best maps. The Malden DLC is free, and the APEX DLC is without a doubt the most popular of all the DLCs.

After that, it depends on how you play the game. If you prefer single-player campaigns, the Tac-Ops and Laws of War would be the next DLCs that I would recommend. If you prefer flying, then I would recommend the Jets and Helicopters DLCs. Or if you ever want to be a Game Master and control a multiplayer game in progress, then Zeus would be the DLC you should get.

There are enough free mods available that make the Marksmen and Tanks DLCs superfluous, although the DLC weapons and tanks tend to be better quality than those found in the mods.

If you are like me, and like to create your own missions in the Eden Editor, then you will eventually want to own all the DLCs and even several of the Creator DLCs just for their content. All the DLCs and CDLCs (in addition to many mods) add content to the Editor Editor, and that expands what you can do with the missions you create.

I see! I plan on playing smaller missions with a couple friends and mostly use modded content. Thanks for the heads up.

Then I would recommend the Tac-Ops and Zeus DLCs.

There are three single-player campaigns, each involving several missions, with the Tac-Ops DLC.
  1. Beyond Hope - Occurs 9 years prior to the "East Wind" campaign (which comes with the vanilla game).
  2. Stepping Stone - Is a campaign where NATO responds to "East Wind" on the Island of Malden.
  3. Steel Pegasus - Involves a NATO invasion of Altis.

The Tac-Ops DLC also introduced new functionality - Civilian Presence[community.bistudio.com]. You can use the Eden Editor to quickly populate villages and towns with civilians that randomly walk between waypoints that you have established.

Of course, you can also use free mods, such as ALiVE or MGI Advanced Modules, to quickly populate villages and towns with civilians as well.

The Zeus DLC will allow you to create missions in the Eden Editor that you can control while playing with your friends. I find the Zeus DLC very useful when debugging missions that I create. You can use Zeus to observe the mission while it is in progress, adding or removing assets in real-time if you find it necessary.

Check which mods you want to play with. Then check which DLC they may be dependant on. Most likely there are very few mods that are really dependant.
