Arma 3

n00b mod question...
In any other game, I can install mods no problem... most of the time due to a 3rd party launcher or the Steam Workshop.

With Arma 3, however, I can't seem to install any mod correctly, whether I follow the instructions perfectly (some will disagree because they aren't installing correctly) or do it my own way. Even using the Breaking Point launcher, BP doesn't seem to want to install, regardless of whether or not I change the installation path/restart/verify files/whatever.

I've tried searching online for a launcher or an easier way to install mods, but I haven't been able to find anything. Do any of you know a fool-proof way to install mods?

What method are you currently using?
What exactly is it that does not work? (does it not show up, etc.)
Mr Octopi 25. feb. 2014 kl. 11:29
I just use whatever method is detailed out in the mod description. Currently, I'm having a huge issue with BP (though I know there are forums through them that might help) where it says "empty path name is not legal", yet its got its own launcher.

Even when I download, extract, rename, etc., none of it works. The funny part is that when I had the pirated version of Arma 3 (had it so I could see if my system could handle it), mods installed fine. No idea what's going on. =\

Why didn't you say in your first posting that you have used a pirated version of ArmA3?

You have a computer that is capable to run ArmA3 but don't have the money to pay the devs?

Cracks are generally not known for the security - they are known for containing viruses and trojans.

When I am online, I simply don't like to play with scum that is infested with malicious code.

So why should I answer questions of cheaters or crackers in a forum?

So that you can make your cracks better? We don't like to help you with that, sorry.

People like you are stealing game-keys of innocent players.

Why don't you go away to the people who have made those cracks and ask there?

First of all, I have a two year old $450 laptop, so yes... I pirated the game BEFORE buying it, like I do with all of my games that don't have demos or trials. Why would I spend $60 on a game before knowing if I can even run it? I use pirated copies like demos, and if I enjoy it and can run it, I buy it via Origin or Steam.

Second of all, I DO CURRENTLY OWN ARMA 3 VIA STEAM, you dumbass, hence "when I had..."

Third... I never once used a key of any sort, only a no-CD crack, so you and your precious keys are/were safe from me.

Fourth... if you're going to be ignorant enough to not ACTUALLY read a post, don't be ignorant enough to reply to it.

If you're not going to try to be even remotely helpful, piss off. I am aware of all of the downsides and issues involved in torrenting things and installing unverified software, and I also know the means in which to take care of these issues.

Again... if you're not going to offer help in regards to installing mods for the STEAM version of Arma 3 (as my OP dictates), go find someone else to harass.

i agree. dont post on here if your not trying to be helpful. i dont agree with torrenting but hes gonna do what hes gonna do geez what are you his mom? go play your games and leave him alone haha. and for the question at hand. have you tried seeing if you could find mods from the same sources you got the game from?

Yes, I have. When I had the pirated copy, nothing had an issue with the game; now that I have the Steam version, anything other than workshop mods say that they aren't valid (even after updating, verifying, reinstalling, etc.)
Tr0pical_Lif£_$aver_ 25. feb. 2014 kl. 17:47
hmm thats very strange. have you deleted the pirated version and emptied out your recycling bin? maybe those programs are screwing with it.
Mr Octopi 25. feb. 2014 kl. 17:49
I have, indeed. Any time I do something like this, I always delete the pirated version before even purchasing (much less installing) the retail version.

You came to the wrong neighborhood.

You came to the wrong neighborhood.
1) Used a pirated copy for testing.
2) It was enough to test it offline, because having played Arma 2 and DayZ, I knew how horrible the online was optimized.
3) Never played the pirated copy online, so never needed an "online crack".
4) Tested single-player mods, just to see what was there in the community.
5) Mods worked in the pirated copy, but not the Steam copy (which I purchased); don't believe me, open an inquiry with Steam.
6) Not once did I complain about any one thing in this thread; I opened this thread for help on how to properly install mods in the Steam copy.

Get your facts straight and actually read posts before you start blatantly start pulling ♥♥♥♥ out of your ass.

Tell you what, Mirudes... open an inquiry with Steam and add me on here. When you find out that I actually did purchase a legitimate copy of Arma 3, you can apologize. If you don't feel like going through all of that hassle, I guess this will have to suffice:

You might still have an alternative Arma 3 directory entry in the registry. Make sure it's pointing to the steam installation folder and not where you had it previously.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive\Arma 3

Look for the MAIN entry.

X:\XXX\steamapps\common\Arma 3

If that's your steam folder, it should be ok, but you might still have a duplicate somewhere that's screwing up the mod launcher or whatever you use.
