Tell me what I need to play DayZ style mod on Arma 3 please!!

I've been looking online, and the amount of mods is overwhelming.
I'm completely new. Please break down what I need to buy & install.
I want a Dayz style experience, but with Arma 3. Every video I watch online, I never see any zombies. Some of Frankies videos have zombies, but others do not.
Do I only need to buy the base game Arma 3, or do I need to buy certain DLC version of it? Like, do I need Apex, or Cold War Assault.. I'm totally lost.
I can figure out how to install the mods myself.. If you can please tell me which version of Arma 3 (or just the base game), and which Mod would give me the most "DayZ-like" experience.
Thank you guys. I just don't want to purchase the wrong thing.. and then have to buy something else if I made a mistake.
For Example- If I wanted to play Arma 3 Exile, the same one all the YouTubers are playing, Do I just buy the base game Arma 3, then download the Exile mod?

First purchase Arma 3. I recomend getting the bundle version that includes the Apex expansion.

After that the mods are free, because they are community created content such as Exile and Ryan's zombies.

Arma 3 (DLC's are optional). Then download EXILE from CCG. That's it.

You really only need the base game. If a server/scenario/mission has something from a DLC it will tell you. You can use them, but you get weird black squares on your screen everyonce in awhile. With vehicles, they are just locked and you can't get in. Most situations I have come across, if it's DLC, you can see the DLC item, but not interact with said DLC item.

As for a DayZ feel, I made a mission. A very basic one at that being I can't script to save my life.

But if you want, you can check it out. And yes, it has zombies. lol

If you need any other help, feel free to ask. I have found that MOST of the ARMA community is pretty friendly. But, there are those certain few that tent to wreck it for the others.

Thanks a ton guys.. very helpful info. I'm finally going to take the plunge and buy Arma 3. I was on the fence for two years on whether or not to buy DayZ standalone or Arma 2.. But Arma 3 looks ridiculously fun. Unfortunately all of my friends are console players :(... So I tend to shy away from multiplayer PC games. Hopefully I can meet some new friends online or something. Perhaps I'll join an Arma forum.

Hi Kenny I would recommend downloading the A3 Launcher, as I find it very easy to keep track on servers and mods that you need to play said server. It is very straight forward on how to be used. (https://a3launcher.com/) Click on the server you want to play on, the A3 Launcher downloads all needed mods and throws you in after it's done downloading.
If you already found out i'm sorry I wasn't of any help.

no offence to the A3 community here, but for the real DayZ experience, better off just to get DayZ SA! yes, its still in EA, but has come a long way and beta is coming soon!

anyhow... what i have found so far for the DayZ exper.. here on A3, the ViruZ Mod or for a single player exper... check out
[SP] DayZero - Cherno Isles, in the workshop.

i have the SA but dont know where to get this mod thing or how to use it
