Arma 3
any good AI improvement mods?
hey so i have been ery frustrated lately about the ai in this game. they have their back toward you, you anger on of them. the guy with his back on you turns around and kills you almost instantly, or them killing you while you can't see them cuz they are behind a bush but apparently they can see you. does anyone know some mods that make the ai more realistic and to stop them from seeing me through foliage? thanks

Both can be used at the same time

There maybe other versions of these mods but these two are the ones commonly used versions.

The thing about the larger AI modification mods like 'VCOM AI' and 'ASR AI13' is that they seem to create as many problems and incompatibilities as they solve. I think I'd rather find a small handful of smaller, specific mods that work together. I also don't want to change the behaviour too much that it affects the campaigns or mission triggers.

Note I don't use ACE3 and don't currently play any special randomly generated missions like 'Alive'. Just simple campaigns and scenarios.

So here's the single player AI modification that I'm experimenting with right now (loaded in this order):
· All-in-one command menu (extends your squad AI commands)
· AI avoids prone
· Pinned down
· LAMBS Suppression

Initially I'm quite happy with it, although I'm still testing. The AI have become much easier to battle with, and the firefights more interesting. I still get killed enough times, but not really aim-botted. I *think* LAMBS over-rides the sliders in game difficulty, so I may disable it and see if I can find a setting I like with just the other three enabled.

The next AI modification I want to experiment with is Project injury Reaction (PiR). I think this may break missions/campaigns though, unless I can choose which features to turn on/off.

For getting extra information about my squad, I use:
· Squad Feedback
· DUI Squad Radar
· Simple crew info

Other quality of life mods I use to make single player better:
· Simple single player cheat menu (handy when a mission is bugged)
· CH View distance
· Reduced haze mod v3.1
· Ragdoll physics plus+ v1.12
· Time slowing menu <--- amazingly helpful when you're a squad leader
· Enhanced GPS
· Enhanced map
· Enhanced movement + Enhanced movement rework
· Swap your weapons
· Left shoulder scripted weapons
· A3 Thermal improvement (night vision)
· No weapon sway <--- unrealistic, but so is the amount of vanilla sway
· Align
· Advanced weapon mounting
· Lambs turrets
· Blastcore edited (standalone version)
· Dynasound 2
· Webknight flashlights and headlamps

The annoying thing about collecting mods, is that many downloaded scenarios and campaigns have hard-coded settings which effectively disable/unload some mods. This means that there can be a lack of consistency in the single player gameplay. I've tried to only use mods that seem to generally work in all missions.

I will second LAMBS. Combined with ZEN (Zeus Enhanced) if you are so inclined will allow you to do spectacular things with the AI, but it will take time to learn HOW to do them.

Note that the list is not definitive. I already made some changes to it:
· Added 'Help Me' (mostly for the weather), but which may replace 'Single Cheat Menu'
· Added 'Plane Turbulence' and 'Helicopter Turbulence'
· Added Project SFX (more replacement sounds)
· Added Remote EDs Separate Detonation
· Added Kill Confirmed Lite <--- for testing the PIR mod
· Added TWS (map population and ambience effects)
· Swapped Blastcore Edited for Blastcore Murr Edition

The best thing to do is browse the Steam Arma3 workshop, but click 'mod' and 'mechanics' on the right. Plus the 'filter by date' button --> last updated between [one year ago to today]. Then sort by most popular 'over one year' or 'all time'. Once you've got all the mods you want from this period, you can go back a year. The further back you go, the more wary you have to be.

There are a couple of problems with your claims.

First, AI will not shoot at anyone hiding behind solid foliage, like trees or dense bushes, unless they see you first, before you hide behind the foliage. Bushes that have holes or gaps in them, making them semi-transparent, will give AI the LOS they require to shoot you. So choose your cover carefully.

Second, AI have a 120 degree field of view. Which means that if you were standing behind the AI it would not be able to see you.

Third, the AI in Arma III can hear. AI does not need to see you to shoot you. If they hear you, even when they do not have LOS, they may still target you. Even inside buildings.

AI that are with a squad are also in communication with that squad. Which means that if one member of the AI squad spots you and has a high enough "knowsAbout" value, then everyone in the AI's squad will also know your location even though they haven't seen you.

If you are detected by the AI and can manage to stay quiet and out of their LOS for a minimum of two minutes, then their "knowsAbout" value is reset to zero and they forget you exist.

Can you not see them through the tiniest gaps?

No such mod exists, because there is nothing to fix.

If you don't want the enemy to see you, don't hide behind transparent or semi-transparent objects. Problem solved.
