Arma 3
Is 8GB 3200mhz single channel ram enough for Arma 3 today?
Hey guys, I want to upgrade my PC to have better fps in Arma 3. I wonder if I should add second 8GB ram to use that dual channel support of my motherboard to have higher fps in arma. Also you could give me some advice on what I should focus on getting first, thanks....

My Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1300x 3,6 GHz (overclocked to 4.0 GHz)
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster MasterLiquid ML120L
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 570 (overclocked)
RAM: HyperX® FURY 8GB DDR4 3200mhz (overclocked to 3466mhz)
Motherboard: Gigabyte A320M-S2H
Storage: 128GB SSD drive (where I only store my OS), 1TB HDD (where I store arma and other games and programs)

P.S: I also ONLY play Arma 3 with 109 mods about 70-80 gb worth of mods

No, more ram the better, if you can afford it go to 32 or max out your system, minimum i would say is 16gb, but the ram speed will work, just need more ram itself and then you'll be fine.
Also put Arma on the SSD you'll get smoother processing of the game.

Technically, that is the absolute minimum hardware to run Arma III. While the game will load and function, you will not like the experience.

With only 8 GB or RAM the only time (if even then) you will see 60 FPS or better is when you are on foot. As soon as you get into a vehicle, your FPS will plummet and forget about flying helicopters or jets. Even with a viewing distance set below 2 km, you would find the game very frustrating to play.

As Gunter Severloh mentioned, you really want a minimum of 16 GB. More would be even better.

Arma III is not graphically demanding, so even very old video cards will work just fine. However, Arma III is an unbalanced memory hog. Most of the work is done by just a couple of cores and a handful of threads. So the more physical RAM you can throw at it, the better the performance will be.

I also hope you do not have those 109 mods all active at the same time when you start the game. There is no reason to have more than 20 or 30 mods loaded at one time, unless you are creating missions. Mods consume memory, and for every active mods it means a lower FPS.

Okay this is my plan:
1. Get MSI B450M BAZOOKA MAX WIFI if I want ryzen processor, or Mortar if I want intel processor
2. Get new processor either Intel I7 9700KF or ryzen 5 3600 (They are same price here in my country)
3. Get another 8 gb or ram
4. Get SAMSUNG 970 EVO PLUS NVME 256gb disk to store Arma 3

My question is:
1, Will this improve my fps drastically and is it worth it?
2. Is it better to get Intel or ryzen processor (processor will be chosen based on whats better for arma Arma 3)

You will see some improvement in performance just due to the fact that the CPU is faster. Unfortunately, because Arma III is so unbalanced adding additional cores will not improve performance as much.

16 GB of RAM is definitely what I would recommend to be your minimum. You will be able to set your viewing distance to between 2 and 2.5 km, and still get 60+ FPS while on foot or in a vehicle. You will drop to ~40 FPS, or maybe even lower, when flying, but it is still playable - barely. Overall, I think you will enjoy the experience better with 16 GB of RAM.

1 - It will certainly improve your FPS, at least to the point where the game becomes enjoyable to play rather than a frustrating experience. I do consider it worth it. I upgraded my own PC to 32 GB of RAM in 2019 specifically to improve my performance with Arma III. It improved it so much that I'm now considering upgrading to 64 GB.

2 - Personally, I would go with the Intel I7 instead of the AMD CPU. I'm currently running a Ryzen 7 3700X and I'm having compatibility issues - not with Arma III, but with other software.

Ya Ram makes a big difference even the ram speed, im running 32gb with 3600mhz, with the game itself on an SSD, and OS on another, performance is key, about the only time i ever see low performance like 30fps and under is when one of the guys in my group decides its ok to have 100mods for a mission were going to play.

Upgrade dont setting for 16gb that minimum, let me say that again, thats minimum enough to get you over the hump and the game playable.
Spend the money, if you are a dedicated fan of the series like myself, an investment once every few or more years wont hurt you, if your going to spend a sh*t ton of time in the game then make sure its worth your time and the best time you have. Enjoying the experience is what its about, you'll create some great memories that way.

Bit late to this thread, currently running 16gb 3200mhz looking at getting 32gb (2x16) at 3600 mhz, Gunter did you need to overclock or does arma sit happy at 3600?

My ram was initially at 2600 i think i forget, but i had clocked it to 3600, and
ya my game plays good.
I have Arma 3 only on an SSD by itself, and my OS on its own, then any other games
i have on other SSD's.

My cpu is i7-700k 4.20ghz
Gpu Nvidia RTX 2060 12gb
Ram 4 8gb sticks = 32gb
1000watt psu

i average 50-110 depends on the map, and mission, but most games is fine.
On weekends i play coop with a group and we use up to 20 mods, missions are heavy but
on them i average 60+ ok so ya SSD, Ram and good cpu is important.
