You can have an AI in the gunner seat and tell them what to fire at though.
Press 'T' to lock onto targets and your gunner will target them. You may have to tell them to fire or hold fire depending on their behaviour or combat status.
You can but you won't have the full functionality. I do it in Invade and Annex if I can't get my hands on a littlebird. Get in the gunner seat, and lower the gun to basically face forwards. From there you can get into the pilot's seat and request manual fire and sort of do it, but it's not really worth doing, easier to just use a helicopter like the Hellcat or the Littlebird.
Were any of the Microprose/Atari rejects over at Bohemian Interactive later working on these aircraft weapon systems?
Hey, maybe there's just another user-created mod somewhere I have to download! Maybe it will crash my computer for the 100th time and I'll have to do another Verify Files. Yay!!
The change/next target/vehicle keys in helos seem to do nothing. "T" doesn't do anything in the helos, either. In fact, now that I think of it, at no time was I able ever to target or auto-acquire anything in any aircraft while playing stock Arma 3 in like MP Warlords. All weapons usage was either done by the AI or crudely aimed (badly, at that) bore-sight by me. I don't think any of the ATG missiles have ever been fired by either of us, though. And usually the AI just doesn't want to fire a damn thing.
