Arma 3

Do you like the futuristic setting of Arma 3 ?
I play since A1 & A2 Arma and can remember that the most mods/addons were in this soviet or in this desert storm stile compatible to the campaign, but when i am looking at A3 i wondering some times, because the setting of the most mods/addons isnt 2035.

Dislike the A3 community the futuristic setting of Arma 3 ?

I think the futuristic setting of Arma 3 is god-awful, and restricts almost everything about it. I specifically go out of my way to play with content like RHS and CUP to have weapons, equipment, and vehicles that are not only iconic but familiar. You aren't going to hear me say "Yeah I really like the MX rifle", no, you'll hear me say "I really like the RHS M4A1".

i like the Altis map, but most of the gear and vehicles i'm not a fan of.

Half of it isn't nearly as futuristic as you might think. Its mostly modern day equipment.

That beeing said I still think most of the older equipment (RHS and such) makes for more interesting and maybe more balanced gameplay.
Yes I don't mind it, I like it in fact, but like the above user said.. it's actually just mostly modern equipment, not that futuristic, some of it for the sake of balance maybe.

its more "advanced modern" than futuristic

so so, personally i think its just a waste of my disk space and would of preferred that they just used and upgraded the old content. probably why alot of the community use CUP and RHS mods. i like some of the NATO stuff. but the wierd looking CSAT gear bugs me.

I really like the futuristic style but I agree with

so I can say it's more advanced than futuristic. After all 2035 isn't that far.

Old thread I know, but whatever. I didn't like it at first but it's grown on me, nothing about it is too out there besides some of the CSAT equipment. A mod that gave them more contemporary uniforms would make it nearly perfect.

Well its not too much future for me to totally dislike.
In Arma 2 you could clearly tell what the imagined Countrys are supposed to be... and sometimes they are quite "foreshadowing" for reality.... Arma2 Campaign is basically Russia annexing Crim.... And the Arrowhead campaign... well look at the Map of Takistan, its Iraq and Kuwait.

And in Arma 3.... Stratis is Cyprus... or at least they had Cyprus in Mind here...the Greek Names show this too.... So its still based on a realistic in our time based Conflict.

Not quite

Stratis resembles the greek island "agios efstratios" which is merely a fraction of the size of cyprus. Altis is modeled after "Limnos".

Nothing futuristic about the assets in the game there all modern equipment, see
this thread on BI forums, it goes through each asset in the game those being weapons, vehicles etc,. and shows an actual pic of the real thing.

Oh hey, good to see you're still around :)

I'm kind of lacking the time to dabble in scripting as much as I used to, so I also stopped checking forums at some point.

I bet people are still mostly asking the same questions anyway ^^
