UAVs and Artillery
Hi,

I've managed to figure out how to control UAVs and Artillery now. What I would like to be able to do is to call in (or flag co-ordinates for) artillery strikes direct from the Turret view of a UAV while it's under control via the UAV control panel.

Is this something anyone has actually managed? - Appreciate any help.

Cheers

You have to release the UAV controls to call the artillery. It's a pain but do-able. Once you found your target with the UAV, turn the laser on it, release the controls (the laser will stay on and as long as the UAV is hovering or stationary, on target), call the artillery, laser guided of course, then take the UAV controls back and continue to paint the target. Enjoy the show. I had a hard time getting it to hit on target in the beta but I haven't tried since.

Grand, thanks, I'll give it a pop tonight. Shame you can't just hook the UAV up to the Artillery Support requester module and do it direct, but the fireworks should be worth it in the meantime!

Ok, I checked this out before bed last night. I know the proper way now. You put your Darter, or other UAV into place, switch back to your character and use the map to call the artillery in the general area, switch back to the UAV and turn the laser on and paint the target until the shells arrive. It's best for a slow moving vehicle. I only tried at a distance of around 100 meters. What's I mean is I called the artillery on the map 100 meters away from the target and was still able to hit it while keeping the laser on the target. I'm not sure about the total range between calling the artillery and where you can have it guided too. I don't think it is all that far though.

I managed to get that to work too, it's not to bad (and there are some dramatic effects to be had.) - What I'd really like is to be able to fully control the support menu from the UAV turret view but try as I might I can't get it to function. So it looks like I might be trying to push the engine farther than it's intended..Great fun though. Thanks for your help!

Yeah its just not set up to support commanding from UAV control. It has nothing to do with the engine, that is how the game is set up. If you want, go to the BIS site and make a ticket for this to be changed in the future. Right now its not so bad, call support, and then point your laser... pretty easy.
