No Player Slots
Hi All,

About five weeks ago, the missions I make in 3DEN stopped working. Specifically, when I upload them to the system hosting my headless client and load them up, there are no player slots at all. Older files I've made still work, as well as other missions for the same maps. So it's not specific maps. I've been making and running missions for over a year without incident (I Zeus for a small group).

I've Googled this, of course, but the only similar problems I can find are from 2016, after 3DEN first released. Here's what I've done so far for troubleshooting:
- Verified A3 game files on both my computer and the server
- Tested vs old files, as mentioned above
- Remade the missions and placed the Player and Playable characters from scratch, rather than using my usual template
- Checked my module settings twice; I use a template for all the modules etc. (I'm no expert on this stuff, though, so it's entirely possible that a setting is wrong and I didn't notice.)

Hey man I'm not the most well read but I have had this problem before, for me it was caused by a mod version mismatch between my mission and the server. Basically I had added an item to the mission I had but the server did not have, I would also, just to double check the small things, make sure you have the player slots set correctly in the misssion options. Lord knows I've forgotten to put those in more than a few times. If you've already done/ ruled those out, I'm not the best with logs but if you can send me a full log for the last mission error, preferably a log that has only the start up and an attempt to load the mission in question I'll do my best to look through them for a clue to the issue.

When you say "player slots set correctly," are you referring to the settings on the characters that the players will inhabit (i.e. checking the "playable" and "hide if empty" boxes), or are you referring to the multiplayer options, the min and max players for the mission?

I don't get any errors at all, which is truly infuriating. I simply login as admin, go to #missions, load in my file, and it (apparently) loads--but there's nothing in the lefthand column. I can take a screen recording if you like.

i was refering to the min/max options. but I know what you mean, that should be an indicator that the mission itself is not loading, but if possible I would like to read the logs and if there is ABSOLUTLEY nothing in the logs then I have no idea, are you 100% sure the mods you edit with and have on the server are 1) EXACTLY the same and 2)up to date?

Yes, I'm quite sure. I keep the server up to date using my own Steam account, and I'm always sure to let Steam download updates and run the A3 launcher to let mods install/update just before I launch the standalone client. (I shut off both and use TADST to launch the standalone while still being able to run the client on my primary machine.) Additionally, I have triple-checked that all mods in use are present in the launch script for the standalone client.

I also know better than to have any extraneous mods or maps loaded when I build a mission; that's burned me a few times. :P

I'll double-check the slots issue. I have TADST set for 9 players max, and I set the multiplayer settings for Cooperative Game > Minimum 1 > Maximum 9

Have you tried setting minimum players to 0 instead of 1? I know it sounds silly but that screwed me a couple times

Hm, are you sure the server has loaded the right island too? Is there a "doStop this" in the init of the playable slots?
The mod is on the server, and is in the init script for the server, so I'm as sure as I can be. Remember, this thing worked fine for a year or so before this issue came up in early Dec. The hell of it is, I can't identify any changes to mods or whatever that fit the timeline. Also remember that older mission files still work perfectly.

Also, as far as "doStop this", there is no init in the playable characters at all. Can you please explain or link to an explanation?

Did you ever find a fix? Spent 8 hours on a mission, and can't put it on my server.
