Changing Vest Colors using SetObjectTexture
Is it possible, or would I need to use a different script? Can I do it without any mods?

No, it isn't possible to change the color of a vest via this command. You have to retexture the vest, which basically means that you have to include a mod.

Do you by any chance know how, or could you direct me somewhere that could help?

Is there perhaps anyone script I could use, or is making a mod the only way?

Like he said, mod only, unpack the pbo retexture it (if the license allows it) and write a config.

@Drgn V4karian, also for backpacks, from my experience, the textures, once applied, stays with that backpack, and doesn't reset when pick up by another unit
