Arma 3

How Can I Allocate Memory For Arma 3
Is this something in launch options? And if so what's the max? I'm running the game with an i7 quad, 8 gigs of ram and a 660 ti and most of the time when I exit the game I get the windows message stating my computer is running slow and I should switch to basic color scheme.

I'm no computer wiz, but I thought my specs were more than enough and yet my OS tells me I'm short on resources? WTF?

Also, ANYTIME I play multiplayer, after I exit the game, taskbar and windows become unresponsive. I hit cntr-alt-delete, click once, cancel out and everything fixes itself. Is this also possibly a memory issue?

This all started after I opted in and then opted out of the dev build. It was also right around the time when I installed this terrible mod called Dead Nation (has it's own frikkin' launcher and everything).

What I've done so far with no results:
1) verified game cache files through steam for Arma 3
2) cleared steam cache folder
3) uninstalled Arma 3, including manually deleting any leftover files (mods etc) and reinstalled.
4) shut down webroot antivirus
5) opted in and out of beta again
6) scratched my head in deep thought

I'm starting to think 8 gigs ram is not enough. Is it possible Arma 3 detects good hardware and treats it as such even though 8 gigs is not enough? I feel like the game is using way more memory than it should allow.

Current tweaks include:
1) -nologs
2).cfg file: changed gpu max frames ahead to 1 and triple buffer to 1 (I use v-sync and it really helps)
3) manually disabled core parking via registry (power options don't seem to work)

Note: Same issues with or without the tweaks. Also, I've disable core parking on two other rigs, a laptop and a PC (with basically the same inner workings), and none of them have any of these issues pop up.

note: I still have the issues with or without the tweaks and my backround processes are using less than 1.5 gigs of resources.

You can set the memory limit with -maxmem=xxxx with xxxx being a number of your choice. Try setting it 1024 (a gigabyte) lower than your maximum available.

So try -maxMem=4096 , 5122 , 6144 or 7168

I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

That's what I've read. So why in the world is my OS telling me I'm using up so much of my resources with Arma 3? Gonna have to check my resource monitor as well. (I'm guessing with -nopause)

if your cpu and gpu is being used as it should then you will get the performance messege as its being maxed out

Upped my virtual memory allocation via windows (was set really low) and my OS doesn't yell at me anymore when I exit the game even with aero running.

Just wish I could pinpoint the cause of this unresponsive desktop issue...

You mean the paging file size? I myself have 500GB and 8GB so for me changing it will make no difference. You shouldn't be having issues with it either. The page file is just the green room for previously opened applications. It should have had close to 8GB allocated by default.

Maybe the registry has leftovers. Install CCleaner and run both the Cleaner and more important Registry options. It's not my fault if anything goes wrong. I always carelessly run it myselfe btw. http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Side note. I'm on my first Intel cpu. It's an i5 ivy and I don't like it. It does what it wants. All my former AMD seemed more flexible. Will be going back to AMD on my next build.

I'd just disable the page file. With 8gb it might be a bit tight at times if you leave a lot of programs running in the background.

Try running with it off and see if it still complains. It should help with system responsiveness as physical RAM is way faster than the page file can read/write.

scan your pc for malware i had troubles with my arma doing the same thing and after a malware scan and delete my arma runs heaps better.

even if your antivirus scans for it a manual scan will be a deep scan of your pc.
