NEED HELP WITH ACCESS VIOLATION ERROR 0xC0000005
Hi everyone,

I have an exceptionally annoying problem with my computer. Whenever I load and play Arma 3 via steam, both launchers will load flawlessly. After anywhere from 5 mins to 30 mins, the game will crash completely leaving a box on my screen saying:

"0xC0000005 - ACCESS_VIOLATION_ERROR"

Now I've tried everything to get this to work:

1. completely uninstall the game and reinstall it (multiple times)
2, Also go as far as uninstalling steam itself and reinstall from scratch (multiple times)
3. completely reinstall the operating system (windows 7 ultimate) (multiple times)
4. Brought and install brand new RAM
5. Brought and install brand new graphics card
6. The install was on a storage drive. I placed it on the SSD and other drives through different installations but it did nothing (I have 5 HDD's)
7. verified the cache and files through steam for Arma 3.
8. Updated every driver imaginable for my PC and even tried running with only basic drivers from disk after complete reformat and reinstalling OS. Made no difference.
9. Removed all unessential components from PC. Tried with 1 HDD, 1 Stick ram, MB, CPU and using OBG. Another failure.
10. Completely disabled DEP using CMD
11. New thermal paste for CPU
12. Tried going back to a single screen and trail both onboard graphics and graphics card.
13. Tried lowering the graphic settings on both the PC and in-game but that did nothing.

For the life of me I can not figure this out.

Also a quick note: none of these components are more then 6 - 12 months old and I can still play other games like WoW (World of Warcraft) without a single issue. But FFXIV loves to stop responding after 5 mins. Not that I really care.

My System specs:

Motherboard: Fatal1ty Z97 Professional
CPU: Intel Core I7 4790K Quad-Core 4.0 GHz
Graphics card: Gigabyte Geforce GTX 650 4096mb GDDR5

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arma3 -profiles=Profiles"

Try putting this into your Parameters box in the launcher, or steam launch options under properties. basically ArmA is having trouble saving your profile because it is saved in the Documents folder, which is generaly a Read-Only folder (meaning programs cant write to or edit files/folders here) So basically ArmA is saving your profile, but it cant because its set to Read Only. The game panics and crashes (Don't you just love ArmA? :D ) This is why its called an "ACCESS VIOLATION" Error.

Basically what the parameter does is saves your profile to the ArmA install folder inside steam, instead of the documents folder (It makes more sense to be here in my opinion anyway :D )
If you want to put your profile somewhere else, thats fine! Just change the path to where ever you want, just dont change the "-profiles=Profiles" part!

I had the same problem as you, it started when i upgraded to windows 10 (Best and worst decision i have made so far, hehe) If you have any questions just ask or PM me ;)

Hope it all works out :D

Interesting... We have a little clan of 8 of us running in Arma 3 without issues except for one guy with this exact same error.

Typically he crashes when he is getting into vehicles, or shortly thereafter. On foot, he can usually play for 30 minutes to an hour before getting the crash.

We've tried so many things from various threads all over the internet over the past few weeks including this one and nothing seems to work for him, but he is also running an Asrock Fatal1ty Z97X motherboard as well, and I've noticed on another thread with the same problem that they too are running the same Asrock Motherboard.

After an exceptionally irritating couple of months, I have finally fix this issue for myself. However, I doubt that many other people will be able to reconcile this the same way. But then again every single solution that works for one person could potentially work for other people. The issue for me was actually hidden away with the USB to VGA video card converters. When I was doing the screen testing, one at a time, I overlooked that completely due to the fact that if it was unplugged, the drivers shouldn't have any effect on the system itself. However, it did. So basically after un-installing the drivers and unplugging the device it has not caused a problem since.

MicrosalT's suggestion worked for me, I ended up needing to create the new profiles folder in my arma folder. while verifying it was not in read only and copied over my profiles and worked perfectly..

I must admit that I'm too poor at English to get across to you properly. Sorry in advance.

taskmanager\service Tab\TabletInputService 1,right click-stop a system(T key) 2,right click-Service management tools(V key)\Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service \right click open property(R key)\general Tab\1,Startup type - disable 2,state of service - stop(T key)

(Just in case ArmaLauncher battle eye off )
fix the 0xC0000005 - ACCESS_VIOLATION_ERROR.

I'm having the same issue, I have not uninstalled and reinstalled but I've tried a handful of things that other people said helped them. I tried Neon4D's solution and it didn't work, still crashed after 5 minutes. i have the report if that helps?

i uninstalled and reinstalled but all my profiles were still there and my settings were still there. I have uninstalled again and searched out additional folders and deleted them now I will see if this helped... any tips would be greatly appreciated.

I was having this problem recently. I got the game working by changing the platform parameter in the launcher to 32-bit. I just need to find out why the 64-bit version isn't working.

Been a problem with new patch and Zeus for some people (including me). Try the profiling build. Worked for me.

Or... You could just add a comment with a proposed solution like everyone else. Adding seems like a waste of time.

This didn't work. However The Documents folder is write protected. And I cant turn it off. When I go to properties and try to uncheck the write protect box it comes back on. I belive if I can get that off, the game will just run fine. So how to fix this? any1 know?? (this is for my friend.)

He got Windows 10 home.
