Publisher error - "Item publishing failed"

Hello. When I try to update one of my mods, Publisher says "Item publishing failed" with the error messages "Steam error code: 2" and "Steam error message: Fail - generic failure".

Any idea how to fix this?

From memory I think it was my firewall or VPN blocking it.

Solution on Linux / Proton.
- Start the Publisher Tool. No need to force a specific proton version.
- On the top right click on "Options" - "Publisher options..."
- Change "Temp folder Path" to "C:\". Leave the other options as is.
