Drawing borders and lines on the map?

I'm wondering how you do those coloured checkered looking grid-thingys you see in the campaigns and scenarios?

I don't see how to draw lines or grids, only single shapes.

Hold Control, draw a line, draww multiple lines or one line, releasing control finalizing the action

Go into markers, there is 2 types of markers, "Rectangles and circles" and the default one, choose rectangles and circles, and then choose whichever. To change the size of it press 3(or 4 cant remember) and pull those along to the correct size.
