Could arma3 be rated T for Teen?
Hi all, my kid is Very Very excited about arma3 and i will not let him play on any M for mature games. Arma2 was also my sons big excitment, but i said he couldnt play it. Now that arma 3 is out i Realy want him to be able to have it but i wont let him play it it is an M.
So Please reply and tell me if there is Any chance of the game being a Teen and if not, Why

Sorry i didnt include his age, i didnt think it would be needed, He is 15 and would not irritate anyone on the game, he is a very serious gamer but i am harsh on the rules so be it. thanks for all your replies more would be good so i can have a look and decide, for all the (why not play for youreself) IT is because i am on HIS account and i am not about to buy the game on HIS account so that he can play it if i am not around!

Arma 2 is Mature so I'm going to guess Arma 3 will be aswell.

This is what I think:
You are about 12 yrs old and your parents wont let you play M rated games so you are asking random people on Steam to rate the game T. You probably didn't know this, but random people on Steam can't rate games, only ESRB and similar companies can.

Think about it, I dont think there are any cussing in the game, and if you think about it, you should buy Arma 2 for him, along with Arrowhead DLC, taht would be better since he could play mods, I would recommend waiting for a sale so you could buy it cheaper, whichever sale comes first wins. sorry for my rusty english.

But Arma 3 has not been Rated yet. But, if you didn't let your son play arma 2, Arma 3 still out of question. And is highly likely to be rated M for Mature.
The games are rated by companies like ESRB (US), DJCTQ (BR), CSA (JP), PEGI (EU), CSRR (CH) and so on...

In some countrys the ratings is just for guidance, the parent have to make the final decision, "if
you let him play it or not".

I completly desagree, if he's not letting his son play because he thinks his son is not prepared for it, I would recommend other games that are not shooters or at least "soft" shooters like TF2.

I wouldn't reccomend Arma to a child at all.
This game desensitizes death like no other.
It's realistic as hell.

Well thats just a close-minded opinion what you have, just because a game is rated T doesn't mean its suitable for a teen at all, or some games are rated M which are totally suitable for 12 year olds. So I wouldn't look at the age requirement, I would look what kind of game you have. Anyway I think Arma 3 is actually much better than other "Shooter" genre games because you really don't have much violence for a game like it, yes there is blood but no gore at all, unlike other games. So I would actually approve this game for a 15 or 16 year old.

No... You are too simple minded, it's not only the game, but the community stands with a range of mature people too. I've already played with someone "Drunk". Well online content is not rated anyway. But still I don't think is proper to have a kid linkin to guns, and as the topic stated "if is rated M, I won't let him". Which all the Arma series are rated as such. Or did you forgot the A2 "mass cemitery incident"? (If you played the chernaus campaign that is).

The ESRB and those dimwits they pull off the street to rate games are complete ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ to begin with. Are you really going to let a self-regulatory organization dictate what games your child plays? Play the game for yourself even. Explain the content to your son in a rational manner and actually take an interest in his expirience with Arma 3. sarge341, you are the only person that can "let" your child play a video game.

The game will be rated M (for Mature). There are worse thing's than Arma 2's campaign. I was playing games like Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon: Island Thunder when I was 12. I like to think those games are similar in nature to the Arma series and while they don't have the same level of detail, it is still hunting down terrorists/people in a tactical fashion.

Its about as close to actual combat as you can get in a game. Very realistic.

And to people saying "well it doesnt have this this and this", just because its not worse doesnt make it better. Dead Space doesnt have nudity and doesnt let you kill humans. Still should be M. Just becaus a game "is not as bad" thst still doesnt make it suitable for a kid to play.

Also, nobody knows how old this kid is. Kind of an important detail.

Depends on how old is the kid, if he is 13-15, play the game yourself, see if the kid is ready for it and then decide, don't rely on rating systems alone.
And you should do that with every game, I've seen "T" games that fitted in the "M" category better and vice versa.

I just did a report on this for a project. ESRB ratings are only a guideline. Frankly, the only reason that he shouldn't play ARMA is because, as mentioned above, the controls are HARD.

.

Because turing on the news everyday dosen't desensitize either...
But, it should be good for him to see that real combat isn't like COD's (which, incidently, is FAR more violent than ARMA...)

You guys are insane....
A 12 year old sould NOT play it. It's too realistic. When your squad gets killed they announce it, move his body off to the side and move on. Thats called desensitizing death. I wouldn't want my child picking up on other people precieving death like that or precieving war at a young age.
That is the one and only reason WHY they rate games M and don't let children play them. Becuase they desenstize death.

I must reply this as well. Has arma 3 REALLY desentized you to death? You are aware its nothing like reality and its fake right? If a video games has desensitized to death then you have some serious issues and should most likely go speak to someone about them.
lol. I say they game depicts death in a realistic and insensitive manner and you precieve it as an insult to your beloved game and the proceed to tell me I need help. You should really get a life. See I can make assumtions too :)
