Arma 3

Multiplayer is so boring.
I'm sorry, but it is from my experience. So far all I've done is join servers, regardless of game mode, where people are running around in the base or travelling across the map, with no clear objective. What is the point to this? Then when I ask what it is we're meant to be doing, I'm met with either silence or some kid telling me to "Shut up". Heck, I even asked on here about decent servers but most of you are all pre-occupied about frame-rate (rightly so, but would be nice to help those in need). On the odd occasion where there is a clear objective (EG. OpFor base here, BlueFor base here, kill each other), the bases are so far apart and vehicles so scarce that the idea of hiking 5km only to get killed quickly, rinse and repeat, is so mundane.

AND THEN, when there's a clear objective and it actually seems as if I might get into a decent fire-fight or something, I get team-killed. Constantly. Like, I literally just joined a server and for some reason spawned on a random road in the middle of no-where; a team-mate in a buggy is driving towards me, and instead of letting me hitch a ride the b*stard runs me over.

Now before someone or a group of you start calling me a troll, let me explain something; I really want to enjoy ARMA. Honestly. For the most part I actually like the game; the showcases are awesome, the graphics are nice, the gameplay really appeals to my "need" for realism in games, but honestly this game is *not* friendly to newcomers.

So now I've grabbed your attention with the title, annoyed you with my rant, and made you begin writing a sarcastic remark towards the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you've no-doubt labelled me as...

...anyone fancy giving me some advice on how to best enjoy ARMA 3's multiplayer? =)

^^

you've got a day-z crowd, a hardcore arma crowd, & an 'i have money so i click to buy on trendy stuff' crowd. that's basically where this is right now.

You just need to wait so all the non-armaholics go away. When you play with a decent community Arma is one of the best games, I mean the pure scale is just...
I remember playing Arma 2 OA in Insurgent mission and the scale of that was amazing, 10 squads (+-) each one securing a different sector, it just made it feel so amazing. You looked to your right about 400 meters and you could see other squads fighting and securing their objectives, and in that moment you felt that you're part of something big, and that was only in a 32 player server, imagine an organized mission with 100 players, like Shack Tactical is famous for.
That's my tip for you, wait so the "mob" can go to other games and only the truly Arma fans remain.

Sounds like you might like the team death match servers some i have found are in the big town just in that area and u just kill the other team no long walk just spawn run a few meters and your getting shot at.If u want a group to play with im willing to help you out been playing arma for years your just running into the dayz kids that act up on servers without admins that care.

Amen. Maps is huge with no boundaries for TDM. And there's no indicators or anything. Map is nearly impossible to read where you are, etc.

I hope it gets better.

I hate joining a TDM only to have the entire map open to only 20-40 players. People are so spread out it's no fun.

How is the map impossible to read ? It's a map like any other. Not only do you see your position on the map unless the server is set to a higher difficulty, but even if you don't, it's not that hard to orient yourself.

And forget TDM imo, COOP missions against AI with people who arent knobs or objective based PvP is where the game shines. - Preferably without (or with limited ) respawns, but unfortunately you need an organized group for that, cause pubs won't have the patience to wait after they die.

from my experiences, map didn't show my location or where friendlies are. Just had an overhead view with a buncha of circles and symbols that meant nothing to me. No description or general zoom of where you are on the map.

And a game this popular should have a flushed out MP, even if that's competitive DM or whatever. I'm not angry, cause I know it's Alpha and things will change. I just hope that the competitive parts get improved to be a little more user friendly.

Gamers have so many options within any given genre nowadays, people are constantly switching bewteen multiple titles- games need to be easy for anybody to pick up and play and understand to a certain extent.

I been playing games for 20+ years, and trying to get into a multiplayer game and understand what's going on , and everything else, is damn difficult. Like I said, it's Alpha so I'll be patient. I was thinking this would be like BF3 with a more realistic approach, boy am I wrong. I will join a game for 10-20 minutes, hear gunfire, but won't see anyone. Dull.

u need to find a group to play with and/or go to wasteland and group up there, your are not really seeing the potential of Arma atm.

"I was thinking this would be like BF3", I think I've found your problem.

its more like bf2 with more realism and better graphics, minus interface

Just Pointing something out here, when poopTardo said "games need to be easy for anybody to pick up and play and understand to a certain extent".

He's completely missing the point. ArmA isn't a "game" per say. It's a battlefield simulator. It's designed to be complexed. Bohemia Interactives main income isn't even from it's games. It's from it's simulators it sells to governments around the globe.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VBS2

Unfortunately in ArmA MP as in real life you depend upon your squad mates, You'll always get knobs that ruin it for everyone else, find some friends to play with. Just don't blame the quality of the game on the players that frequent it's servers. It doesn't deserve it.

depends on the servers. I had some very intense games and some of the most tactical multiplayer game experience playing arma 3 alpha. People actually plan their action, use radio protocol, etc. This is the only game (besides previous arma) in which people do those. I also joined server where no one knows what to do just running around killing teammates like idiots. When that happens, just quit.
Relnor Mar 10, 2013 @ 7:07pm
^ Yup. I don't see the issue. If you are hopping around on public servers, then expect to be swimming in a sea of poo in search of a nugget of gold. You may eventually find it, maybe, and when you do, it will probably be small and unimpressive, and you won't be able to retire on it. Euhm. nevermind.

Alternatively, you could avoid this part entirely and get some reasonable people to play with. The downside to this though is that you can only play when they're around~

Join the good folks United Operations. They're a great group, play well together, and are generally very friendly to newcomers. When you play with other like-minded people, that's what Arma REALLY starts to shine :)

Hang in there Spirit! I can tell you from experience that once you find the right group, you'll be hooked!
