Ditch the XP, its time to upgrade its almost 13 years now.

Fair play to you though Buncs, in the time it's taken me to go through two marriages you've only gone through one OS. :)

Is there a particular reason you don't want to move away from using XP? If so then you could either dual boot, or use something like VMware to carry on using XP for other things. I have a few virtual XP machines on my network for doing things like downloading/transfering large files, and running as a DMZ...but it's just not feasible any more to continue to use it as the sole OS, especially if you only have 1 pc.

Like Listy says, duel boot if you still need XP, upgrade if you don't.

Also, is that the old BBC2 Test Card?
Not seen that for years and years.

Yeah it is... I'd not realised they were still using the graphic up until quite recently, but for me it always brings back memories of being a kid in the 70's and watching the test card waiting for a decent program to come on.....and then the disappointment when I realised the next program on was Crown Court and not Playaway :D

Just get a new OS, you will have to eventually anyway and the longer you take the more games will start to not work.

Why? Some people don't want an Applified version of Windows. It's very clear that Microsoft has dumbed down and shined up Windows to appeal to mindless idiots who only care about rounded edges and shiny things.

DirectX 11 is not available for Windows XP. And there is not going to be a official release in the future for XP. But you can do something to get your XP up to Directx 11 levels. First you will need a PC running Vista or Windows 7, and install Directx 11 Installation files on those computers. You can't download from Microsoft Directx 11, or Microsoft will just make it look like you are getting the update files, but you actually getting the same old 9c Directx files. Anyway, from those Vista and Windows 7 systems that have a working copy of Directx 11 on them you will need to look at 2 folders on those systems. One is in the windows folder called "WinSxS", and contains the libraries, and the other is the "DirectX for Managed Code" folder located in the .NET directory, that also contains the XML libraries. All you really need to do is copy and paste the libraries from the Vista and or Windows 7 folders into the Windows XP SP3 directories. Less us not forget that Vista is also just Windows XP with a Windows 7 theme. So Vista and XP are actually twin systems. And the latest release of Direct X 11 is Vista and Win7 compatible. I have personally done this and it works great, and also the DXDIAG screen shows the Directx 11 installed in the system as well.
I dont take credit for this

This hurts my brain, really.I wonder if the person who wrote the original Text has personally done this while putting a nail up his nose to improve blood circulation in his brain (thats how much wrong this whole story is).

You shouldn't take credit for this, neither should you post this BS.
If someone really tries to do that, all he ends up with is a DXDIAG screen that shows "yup,Dx11 is installed".Will any DX11 call/function work properly/at all?No.
But at least he got it in the DXDIAG list, well done

Anyone know any links of where i can get a copy of windows 7 home basic cheaply?
dark_nanos Apr 9, 2013 @ 11:35pm
Idk. I saw Home Premium for $99, or you could get Windows 8 for the same price. Or see if you can find a download link for Windows 8 release preview to use for now.
