All good man =]
Yeah Stealth is one of the options I tried early, but tried your other suggestion with no result again =\
Yeah I'm guessing it's just a flawed mission really. I know you don't actually have to have the objective to work to continue the mission, but it's just annoying that it's not working correctly, and obviously this has been a problem for some time, with no fix at all from the Developers.
Nothing better than successfully taking out Sentries undetected, but oh well, I'll just go in Guns blazing.
Being new to Arma, the game is good, pretty amazing at times really, but oh my god do the AI really tick me off... At times it feels like they cheat by knowing precisely where I am, and 1 shot kill me.
I just want to get the Scenario's completed, get some experience up, then move onto Multiplayer where I'm sure the Game rises above it all in terms of enjoyment.
Good news is the other mission, Bingo Fuel, does not have any of that bull scripted steps and you have all the time you need to be tactical, try to destroy everything, etc.

It begins with :
__
What you must know : this first step has nothing at all to do with gear, weapons, accuracy or anything combat related. They are simple tasks to do following the scripted dialogue.
a) The rebel leader will ask your squad to target the two guards... Select a part of your squad and target a first guard; select the rest and target the second guard. Do NOT fire yet.
Voilà, the game will print a mission notice about succeeding that initial step.
b) The rebel leader will then ask you to wait for his command to open fire and eliminate both guards quickly (to start a surprise attack).
Once he gives his go-ahead, select your entire team and make them fire.
Both guards will suddenly drop (it is scripted).
Important : you (the player) must not fire until that first phase is done ! Only your squad mates are ordered to fire.
__
Why are you repeating these worthless advises?
bohemia interactive is worse than bugthesda.
b) your statement after is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (squad commands do work).
You're a lying toad. The ai misses 95% of the time.
What did work was instead of targeting the senturies by sight, I did it totally through the Number context menus. Once you have enemies spotted, they will appear on the 2-key context menu. So, select preferred soldier, dab 2, select preferred target, repeat steps for next target.
Hope this helps.. I understand the want to complete it.
It gets even worse: 1.78 update broke Gori Scouting Mission; now as soon as the level loads up, there's a big chance the game will freeze and crash.

Assigning targets seems flakey, it appears because you're forced to assign specific squad members to specific targets. Even then, once everyone is assigned, I either wait and fail the task because he "can't wait any longer" or I order them to fire (or fire myself) and fail the task because we didn't stay undetected. I don't think any of my squad members have managed to kill the targets before the task failed, though I've managed to kill both targets myself in about a second and still failed the task. The task fails almost instantly after the first kill. If they need to be simultaneous, that's nearly impossible because my squad apparently sucks at hitting their target (or the script that makes them both go down is broken).
