Arma 3

How do ghillie suits work?
Never really played much in the Sniper/recon type roles in Arma, but the new update has convinced me to try it out. It got me wondering about Ghilie suits.

Is the AI less likely to spot you when you're in a ghillie suit? If so how is it calculated?

Does the AI differentiate between the various terrain types? for example a grassy hillside vs a conctrete rooftop?

Does each Ghillie design perform better in some kinds of foliage and worse in others?

And do you fatigue quicker when running in a Ghillie suit?

Or are they just cosmetic?

It shouldn't be.

Cosmetic means that players will still have a greater difficulty spotting it.

there is a sniper/ghillie mod.it makes you hard to spot for AI

No, Ghille suits do have an effect, (In arma 2 each uniform has a 'camo value', and wearing camo or a ghille decreased the range at which a stationary person was spotted when prone. I aassume this was also added into A3 as well) , but only at longer ranges. Movement is the big thing AI will spot.

Unless you using it against players, ghillie suits wont do anything.

Nice necro but your statement is wrong. If you don't move they have a noticeable effect on the distance the enemy will spot you.

Now what i wanna know is how is the player going survive on jungle map .....
Becuase trees bush grass flora can all be seen through by AI .....So how are they going get around the player doing stealth in the jungle and just geting spoted with out even seen the AI ..

They will adjust the distance AI can see u to even less just for that new island ....That is going to lead to far worse and more obvious broken AI

Uniforms have a "camoflauge" value, ghilies will make you less likely to be spotted by AI, can go closer, etc. Also less heat projects through so you just might not be ultra rekt by a helicopter.

Is there no line of sight in the Arma engine? If there is, surely obstacles will break that LOS, also camouflage really must work in a military simulator, it's a vital part of warfare, it seems crazy to put ghillie suits etc in the game but not the mechanics to make them function.

If a man dressed in green is as easy to spot as one wearing bright flourescent orange while hiding in foliage then I would say that is a serious flaw, any more info welcome.

Some players have problems seeing you on maps like esserker, sit there camp one spot and don't move, they will spot you when you move.
