4K resolution possible?
I just upgraded to a 4K standard but I do not see it available in the options menu. Is it available and if so, how did you get the resolution to populate in your menu?

If it's not available, not a show stopper.

So... the "Settings - Configure - Video - Resoloution, doesnt show 4096x2560?

Or can you simply not find the menu?

No, interestingly the resolution stopped at 1920x1080, which is the laptop's screen maximum resolution, but the laptop is running through an Alienware graphics amplifier that supports and displays 4096x2560 with all other supporting games. This one title just seems to want to stay slaved to the native laptop resolution. Frustrating.

I never thought Graphics amplifiers worked with resoloution.
I have an Alienware PC and I might try and get a better understanding of Amplifiers.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

It actually works pretty great. Laptop hooks up lock a docking station and it then over rides the laptop GPU with whatever desktop installed GPU you put into the amplifier. Word of caution, the amplifier only works on their newest Alienware series laptops, revisions 2 or 3 only! I made the mistake of assuming it worked on their initial AW17 and the graphics cable port was missing. If you have any questions, shoot me a message. I wouldn't want you to make the same error i did.

Anyway, I will tweak it a bit tomorrow.

Then make a downsampled resolution in your graphics driver. If you have NVidia, just activate DSR

Or set it to 1080p and have 400% rendering resolution.

It sounds like it's an issue with what your display actually supports. I'm running @ 3440x1440, however this is the native resolution of my display. So I'm quite sure Arma supports higher resolutions than you're seeing on your end, and that's why I think it's an issue with resolutions your display can actually support.

from what I understand from the link above, it seems like the amplifier is an external GPU adapter, which forces the OS to see the external as your main gpu, however, unless the display of your laptop supports higher resolutions, you're going to have to purchase an additional display that actually supports 4K to connect to the external GPU adapter display port.

Apologies for not being more clear earlier. I have a 4k external monitor and it's selected as the primary display, while the laptop is the secondary display, only achieving 1920x1080. All other supporting titles in Steam and HDD that support 4k, show up greatly on the external monitor, however, Arma 3 chooses to stay open on the secondary display, rather than the larger 4k display.

I assume there is something I am missing to select in the options tab of the Arma menu, so I'll go back to see if perhaps all that was needed was a re-boot. And on your second point, you are correct. Once the amplifier is hooked up, the laptop GPU goes dormant and the amplifeir GPU becomes primary. I am running a Nvidia GTX 980 and runs most everything maxed out quite smoothly. Best computer add on i ever bought is the amplifier.

Assuming you mean UHD(16:9) for PCs and not 4K(256:135) which is used in the film projector industry. If you've got a projector I can only hope you've got more than 60 Hz, else I'm sorry for your wasted cash.

1. Set the sampling to 100% and Fullscreen mode.
2. Close the game.
3. Open C:\Users\You\Documents\Arma 3\Arma3.cfg
4. Set the following variables:
winWidth=3840;
winHeight=2160;
winDefWidth=3840;
winDefHeight=2160;
fullScreenWidth=3840;
fullScreenHeight=2160;
renderWidth=3840;
renderHeight=2160;
refresh= Your monitor's highest supported refresh-rate at UHD resolution, check your manual ;
5. Launch the game in UHD.

Is 4K gaming at 60Hz a possibility with my Alienware notebook?

Yes. This type of experience may require an Alienware Graphics Amplifier, a high-end graphics card capable of supporting 4K gaming at 60Hz, and a display capable of supporting 4K/60Hz. Your 4K display needs to be connected directly onto the Alienware Graphics Amplifier.
