I have not seen the AI go through walls in ARMA3. They seem to be very strict about going through doors and may circle around a couple times to get their angle exactly right.
There is definitely a stealth element in the game, however. Eventually they will get the hint about where the fire is coming from and will start looking in that general direction. But if they have shorter range weapons, they won't even bother shooting and "seem" to seek cover. Or at least run around like a duck in circles to throw off your aim.
I have assaulted a large camp from about 1.5 km away with a Lynx to only have them look in my general direciton and run in circles. After about 2 minutes of picking off about 7 of the 20, another section came along and assaulted my flank. This has occured for me on multiple missions on modded or vanilla. So there seems to be a command system in place for them, as well. Heck, I even seem to recall being able to edit the effectiveness of the command system or morale systems if their commander dies.
Ghillie suits do work against AI in Arma 2
