You already said it, it's a >tactical< shooter, not your average twitch FPS.

Choosing whether it's worth sprinting across that field at the gain of limited exposure time versus increased sway afterwards is a >tactical< choice. If you can't hit someone at 30m while prone you obviously made a terrible choice :P

You should try shooting some guns for real and not just take it on the word of internet strangers. Unless you have a bipod/tripod or a rest of some kind they really do sway a bit, sometimes a lot, especially if you are running around, tired and not in a perfect fireing range position.
You can try to work with it though, just like you'd have to with a real gun.

If you just got the game I'd suggest getting the PlaywithSIx mod manager and look for a weapon resting mod like "VTS Resting" and "Shacktac Stamina Bar" that shows you how much fatigue you currently are suffering from.

Also make sure you hold down the RMB when aiming to hold your breath and steady your aim. Between that and understanding the new fatigue system you can actually see how it's representing the tactical side of it. Also if you get injured unless you get healed by a combat lifesaver you won't be back at 100% health so there will be some sway.

Sometimes it does though, especially if you are tired and in less than ideal circomstances. You may not live in a place where you have ready and easy access to guns and shooting to get a chance to experiment personally but it does happen .

You are right about having no real sensory input though, in real life you can controll the sway and direct it (but not stop it). But that goes along with the "FPS" view junk too (FPS is like wearing an 1800's copper diving helmet...not realistic at all unless you wear a neckbrace and back brace & full face motorcycle helmet all the time), they are just things we have to deal with inorder to play the game.

It is an awesome game.

OK I'll look for a mod that gets rid of it. It's a shame as I can tell the game is exactly what I'm looking for and it looks gorgeous, it gives me that original Ghost Recon vibe. And one small gameplay mechanic can totally ruin the experience. Thanks for help.

Dont waste your time arguing with the air.

The sway is a ridiculous idea coming from a poor mind of a project manager. Is a game killer and no one Arma game has this horrible idea.

Get one mod that remove the sway (look in my profile) and enjoy the game again.

There's already dozens of threads on this so can't be bothered regurgitating info. Thank god for its effectiveness at weeding out the CoD kiddies <3

The difference being that holding a real gun you have a lot more senses and muscles to work with, a lot more reactions and a much better situational awareness. You can actually hold the scope on the target because of all the above. It doesn't randomly sway all over the place like I've got some sort of nervous system disease.
That's the point, you can't simulate real gun handling with mouse and keyboard, so instead they made a system that relies on skill.

I have been looking at their profiles when they cry, most of them are public and the majority have more than 200 hours in COD -_-

To all COD children

Grow up and learn to play and not cry.
Yes you parents taught you wrong, because when faced with a challenge instead of learning how to overcome the sway and stamina you have chosen to cry.
While you have been crying, saying that Arma 3 is too hard or broken, the rest of us have mastered the sway and stamina and are still having a blast.

Please cry moar as you are hurting yourself and your ability to simply learn.

20,000 people as of 7am this morning cannot be wrong http://www.steamcharts.com/app/107410

lol this why they have to teach our kids how to change a light bulb at schools now.

"so instead they made a system that relies on skill. "

XD... making a system that relies on mouse corrections?... I see this only "snobish" ideas of main project manager..

The main idea behind Arma series is trying to create a simulation. But now the series are only trying create the idea that simulation is "faking sway" inside the weapons.

To me a game where you cant shoot in straight line because the weapons have a "magical" sway - that not exist in real world - is only a "invented" simulation that dont relies on real world.
