Arma 3
vegetation and shadow lod pop
Is there anything i can do to reduce the horrid vegetation lod pops. Constantly having poping and changing grass and vegetation. Why cant the grass stay the same shape instead of constantly changing around your feet. Its so distracting and spoils immersion. Same for shadows from trees constantly popping in and out.. any ideas?

I managed to reduce it so the popping is so far away you dont even notice it about 1 - 2k distance instead of 100m+. The problem i had was testing it on a hdd 7200rpm (thats a big no for this game) so instead i default back to my ssd and its a major improvement.

The ingame settings sometimes dont take precidence the only way to change this is to locate the arma 3 folder in my documents > arma 3 > arma3.cfg. I set mine to 4 i cant remember if it only goes up to 3 so just test with these two lines alone and get back to me.

GPU_MaxFramesAhead=4;
GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;

Edit these lines the higher the better performance it just manually overides settings.

The PiP-feature (Picture in Picture, mirrors) is very demanding.
Try to turn that off.

Im running the game on a ssd, i7-4770k at 4ghz.
8Gb of ram
gtx 680 ftw 4gb tried using various drivers.

Fresh install windows 8.1, I know but its what I'm using

Lots of comments of people using ssd's for this game to improve vegetation pop, but for me it just loads quicker thats all. Same amount of grass pop and changing lods all the time. you can take 4 steps forward and the grass under your feet will change shape and more will pop in after each step forward. Can be so distracting when in a woods trying to pick enemey out of the landscape.
Wouldnt be so bad if they stayed the same shape and just changed texture resolution as you got closer, but they dont they actually change shape.

Any object disatance level over 1200 in game results in stutters and slow downs. The distance level itself can be set higher as long as the object level is down at 1200 and under.
For the best part I get 60 to 80 fps with most things set on high or ultra. With drops down to 30 or 40 facing certain directions or certain types of objects.
Online drops down to around 30 fps and I have to reduce distances down to so close its not worth playing.

The game has got some issues with low fps like when in camp for the missions, when facing the camo nets or the area where your briefing happens. No matter what your settings you will get low fps there.

Online needs to be sorted out I could play arma 2 much better in full servers.

could you ever solve the lod-pop-problem? I do have the same problem no matter which graphic-settings I use...

A SSD with 250GiB solved that problem for me, too.
