Default behaviour for Mouse buttons 4+5 is the Internet explorer setting.
Something like "Page forward" and "Page back"

If you are unsure when to change the settings:
You can create a different player profile for the purpose,
to test other settings.

Mouse buttons 4 & 5 can be assigned in the settings as usual.

Thx for the answer, but that really doesn't help me out.

You can remap them however you want in Configure. I use them as Zoom In/Out.

The problem is, zoom in/out seems to be "hardcoded" for some weird reason. I can remap these buttons but it's still doing these zooming stuff. I thought someone here can tell me which file I could edit, if this is even possible...

When you have conflicting settings, it is shown in red.
When you toggle through your settings, you must have at least 2 conflicts:
One for "zooming" and the other action you have assigned.
Normally, you simply delete the unwanted red entry.

I would like to add that you can have more than one action
on one key and it can be often very useful to do so.

Nah, no conflicts. But thanx anyway, I will just not use these buttons.

The Keys are not hardcoded. In the options-dialog you press the mousebutton 4 or 5 in the field you wants to remap. When you use a 3rd party mouse software, you probably have to assign the standard keys (Page forward/Page back) and after this you assign those for the ArmA-actions. When you want to delete the "Zoom" function from the mousebutton 4/5, you simply use the delete-button.

Tried this, it would have been totally illogical when this would be the case.
I just now started searching for this issue too since I bought Arma3 from the sale, I use mouse 5 for mic most of the time on my Mamba and it's doing the zoom thing, since I didn't see conflicts in the settings, I figured it might be something to do with Synapse 2.0 but I didn't exactly find anything special. If you have a Razer mouse you could probably try to configure the two side buttons by deactivating their normal function and specifically bind them to something? Not sure how it works but if I don't find anything about it in any other searches I'm about to do then that'll be my next step.
