Why The Merkava?

I am not saying that the Merkava is a bad, but why does it appear in the game as NATO’s main battle tank? What caused the members of NATO to abandon their own perfectly good main battle tanks (Challenger, Leopard, Abrams, etc.) in favour of an Israeli vehicle by 2035 which would not provide a significant increase in capability? At first I presumed that the developers chose the Merkava just because it looked ‘futuristic enough’ for Arma 3, but they had no issue with adding a variant of the Leopard at a later stage.

The latest Leopard is in the game - it is called MBT52 Kuma I think.
