Arma 3

Extremely Confusing -> Not noob friendly
Gosh, i have been looking at this game for months. It always looked so amazing and hardcore.
I am a student so i couldn't purchase the game before. I now got a job and i immediately purchased the game.

Everything about the game is so confusing. Even getting into a multiplayer match. While i understand that Arma is extraordinary, i didn't know it was so bad at welcoming new players.

I feel like i wasted 40 bucks on a game where i didn't even know how to enter a vehicle.
I looked at the controls settings, i chose 'industry standard' but from what i know, it isn't the 'industry standard' or maybe i am just plain stupid.

I really want to play this game but for the moment i am so pissed off because i have been trying to figure out the controls and everything about this game for about 2 hours and i am still nowhere. I want to break my computer.

Any simple tips and tricks are welcome.

Best thing to do is open the editor, place a single infantry on the map, then preview the mission and just run around and figure out what all the controls do. Don't be afraid to cusomize them however you see fit...Arma controls are very configurable and I actually spent most of the Alpha fine-tuning my controls to work best for me. you can use key modifiers (shift, alt, ctrl) and different key combinations, so there's tons of options to make it work for you

There are a lot of "non-essential" controls that you probably don't need to use as you start out, but movement and interaction ones are a must.

The most confusing thing is that the action key is the middle mouse button (mouse wheel click).

Tip: forget the editor at the begining is an avanced tool and can be confusing for beginners.

And remember:

Arma 3 has a good learning curve.

Be patient my friend you dont waste your money.

Best thing to do (or at least what I did when I first started playing ArmA) Is to join a group and stick with them. Over time you'll learn everything about the game. You learn more from playing than watching. If you're looking for a group the 11th MEU is always recruiting.

Thank you, DJ Otacon, for a very thorough list of introductory sources. All noobs should be referred to this thread to guide them in what can be a very frustrating intro to the game. I kick myself now for giving up so easily when given the OFP (Arma I) game years ago, thereby delaying my entry into this awesome series.

Play at least 2 days, not 2 hours. Game is hard but not impossible.

Thanks everyone. Really appreciate all your comments. I got a bit the hang of the helicopter controls. Still a while to go before i get to know this game fully.
