How to use mil dots?

How can i use them? I dunno if i'm doing something wrong but i'm getting close to the enemy's distance with all that "target height*1000/mil dots" thing and i always miss.I'm getting really annoyed with this.
Alright this is an example
I'm calculating enemy's distance
I've calculated that his distance is 900 m
When the actual distance is 945
And i keep missing my shots.

each dot to the side or above or below is 100 meters. If your target is 350 meters away then you should range your firearm to 300 meters using the pageup key and then move half a mildot down

Which rifle and target height do you use?

A difference of 50m at close range is negligible. Also, the GM6 Lynx is not made to engage human sized targets at extreme distances. When you miss, does the bullet fly above the target or not far enough?

StormhawkV Well you were right.I spawned Lynx and LRR and it turned out that LRR was more accurate.However when i'm shooting with Lynx to the enemy that is 950 m away and when i'm aiming at his chest bullet hits his feet.So that pretty much explains why i've been missing so many shots.Now there is that last question.Why are my calculations not so accurate?.

Use a higher multiplier for target size. 1,9m x 1000 / mildots should do it.
