how far out are you engaging? First make sure the scope can zero into that range. Otherwise, my top choices for long range sniping are AMS and LRPS. If you aren't really aiming that far, consider using the TWS for constant thermal and zeroing, or the Nightstalker, which gives a constant zero without the always on thermals.
Nice reply from Reaper up there. It gives you pretty much all the information you'll ever need on long range scopes.

I don't really snipe often, but on the rare occasion that I need to I prefer using the AMS or the LRPS. If you don't have a spotter to help you out with range (you really should) the increased magnification makes it easy to pick out the dust clouds where your bullets hit. From there you can usually zero in on the enemy within 2 - 3 shots using the pips.

If you're still getting the hang of sniping then the Nightstalker is handy because it comes with a built in range finder. Just don't expect much precision out of it.

Just curious, Why should I not expect precision out of the Nightstalker?

I use when I play wasteland, mostly because it has non thermals or thermals when needed and of course the rangefinder since I usually end up playing overwatch for the rest of the crew at 700-1000m out and Im normally alone.
Because it lacks the pips to make fine adjustments. If you're using a mod with advanced ballistics calculations (ACE, for example) you *really* need the pips.
For mid range combat the Nightstalker is perfectly fine, and although it remains useable at longer distances, I really wouldn't recommend it. You're better off with a dedicated marksman scope for anything over 800 meters, especially when it comes to moving targets.

If you *really* like having thermals on hand, then I recommend using a laser designator instead of the range finder. In Vanilla Arma the range finder on the designators still work without a battery and you get the added benefit of thermal vision modes.

That's just my humble opinion, of course.

i play king of the hill so there is no nightstalker

This may be late to post , but just in case if someone wants to know more about the LRPS ... it is the best "when you know how to use it" ... I have it on the M320 and can get kills over 2500 m by few meters (longest kill I had was 2559 m) ...however the problem is to know how much compensation you will need .... the space between the mil dots are not equal for all ranges ... i.e at lower ranges the space may represent 50 m and on higher range it may represent between 25 and 30 m.... I had to make a table to show where to put the target at each range (sure you can adjust that while shooting ) but my plan is a 1 shot kill especially in KOTH.
