i7 4790k vs i5 6600k vs i5 4670k
ok so at Christmas i'm looking to get a bit of an upgrade however, i'm having trouble deciding what CPU to get. I want to know which CPU will will run Arma better however keep i mind that i'm on a budget. This CPU will also be ina rig with an AMD 390.

Really I think the i7 is worth it. It's what I use. And is much better than the i5s when playing arma

I have the i7 4770 and i can tell you that it runs very good on arma. So the 4790 should probably run even better.

If you want to play Arma with high FPS and other CPU demanding games or software, the i7 4790 is the best one you can go for :)

the i7 beats both those i5's. It even beats the 6600k which surprised me as the 6600 uses the newer 14 nm tech. I guess it's going to be a few iterations before the 14 nm really gets cranked up.

All things being equal I'd opt for the i7-4790k. It will still be a good choice for the next few years. If budget could be stretched then the i7-6700k would get you a good bit of future proofing and jump to the 14 nm tech as well, but the premium to do so ATM is a little prohibitive.

i7 4790k for sure, I recently put one of these in my parents PC. They won't be gaming but it's a very good chip.

I'm holding onto my 3570k until we get some worthy upgrades.

Go watch some youtube channels of guys who play ARMA and check out their system specs. If it were my build I would go for the i7 personally. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLSPub4ydiM

The key to performance in A3 is the peak clock speed. The i7 4790k has the highest of the three you've listed, so will give the best performance (it certainly works great for me).

if you can afford it i would go for the 4790k as it will help with things such as if you want to stream while gaming, or just save your money and grab a 4690k and you will still get the same performance as the 4790k if you overclock a little bit to run at 4790k speeds which would be very very easy to do with little to no effort, heck might be able to use stock voltage to. just figure out what you want to do between those two, i would personally stay away from skylake as it offers no real benifit over haswell besides DDR4 support, and if you want DDR4 then just grab something like a 5820k which i would suggest you look at as well. but if its just gaming that your looking at doing and want the best performance for the price, 4690k hands down. as i stated before i would only grab the 4790k if you plan on streaming or doing alot of video recording/editing and rendering as most games do not utilize hyperthreading. or heck grab a xeon 1231V3 for around $250, costs close to the same as the 4690k but it has the hyperthreading capabilities of the i7 4790k, its pretty much a i7 4790k without overclocking capabilities or integrated graphics and you already have a dedicated gpu so its not an issue. sorry for typos i was typing quick off the top of my head

Same here . 4790k , not a drama running this at all . If you can afford that bit extra OP go for the i7 , worth the money .
