Arma 3

20 FPS with FX 8320 + GTX 780 classified!!!
I purchased rthe game 2-3 days ago and have had bad FPS ever since. I have an
AMD FX(tm-8320 16GB of RAM and a GTX 780 classified. I tried the following :

- I put this in the startup options : -nologs -maxMem=8192 -cpuCount=8 -malloc=tbbmalloc
-MaxVRAM=3072
- I made sure my RAM and temp file in windows were clear.
- I downloaded a new memory allocator.
- My drivers are up to date.

Nothing worked. I have a sense that the problem is the engine not using my computer's ressources since after gaming for 4 hours on an Asylum Life server my CPU was 26 Celcius and my GPU was 39 Celcius... It's pretty unsual. But how do I fix this?

Thanks for your responses!

EDIT : I also tried to set the GPU_MaxFramesAhead and GPU_DetectedFramesAhead values to 1 in the Arma 3 cfg file. didn't work.

It all depends on the server you are on. Some servers have great frames and other have terrable frames. Try some Sa-Matra Wasteland servers. I never drop below 60 frames on their servers.

Yeah it's true that my FPS will vary a bit depending on the server but we're talking of about 5 FPS in average. Plus, I have a friend that has a verry similar if not worse system than mine and runs better on the same server with the same graphics options.

I also tried in campaign mode and I have the same issue.

what has helped me improve all my games and their fps with my GTX 760 is Nvidia GeForce Experience. I get about 40fps on a packed and high demanding server. it really helps i say tgive it a try! add me if you have any questions....

Your max vram is to high in your prams.
Try overclocking your cpu i have 8350 and the games runs fine on max settings.

Using GFE for "optimization" is like asking a waitress to setup a touring car for the next race.

Its dosent matter how well you setup the game, you will have "stable" 30-40 fps or less in acion.

Select a lower rezolution, put the Texture and Shadows on Medium - Low.

Because textures and resolution stress the CPU, right? Plus, lower quality shadows rendered by the CPU, which is the bottleneck not the GPU.

Helpful post, 0/3 great advice.

Dropping the resolution right down with the exact same settings for the rest has the fps go to exactly the same in the Armed assault showcase at the compound firefight. Thats with aa turned off it goes down from 110 fps before the firefight starts to 40 in parts. Turn AA on to 2x and it goes down to 25-30 fps. This is not acceptable for a sim game. The AI shooting each other is the cause of the cpu bottlenecks. Its rediculous. No other game period has to have you drop resolution from the basic 1920 x1080. When the AI interacts in this game it becomes a slow mess its not fun to play like that at all. With the stupid weapon sway and low fps trying to aim is a joke.

This game is sold as being a mil sim but its the mil sim parts off the game that don't perform properly and are a joke. I have never yet seen the AI being supressed at all. They still stand there in the open shooting back. This game has just been a quick money making scheme to fund the creation of the new engine they are doing at the moment. 25-30fps on a high end modern pc is not acceptable at all especially with just a handfull of troops on screen shooting each other. Online is't even worth attempting. I used to enjoy arma 2 online. This game is a joke

So if you play in the sandbox on your own you will have a great smooth game, just don't expect to put any enemy players in there as it takes a crap. you will have many people tell you to optimise your pc and its your gpu or its your cpu or you don't have a clue what your doing, it's non of these the game engine is from history and should have stayed there.

Well I dont think so because I checked the exact amount of VRAM detected by my system. Remember it's some kind of "special edition" 780.

Also, I know for a fact that this CPU is not in any way an excellent one but I get 90 - 100 FPS on average on every single other game.

And people, please dont tell me to downtune my grphics it's really not helping -_- .

Like I said, I'm almost sure the problem has to do with the engine not using my computer's ressources (please read my original post in it's ENTIRETY).

I tried optimizing it with GFE but ya know... not much happened haha
