Best game modes to play for beginners?
Hello everyone, I recently bought this game during Steam's summer sale of 2024 and as you could guess, I'm an absolute noob at this game.

So in your humble opinion, what are some modes that you would recommend playing for beginners like me?

I don't think I'm really losing that much by not playing the campaign tbh.

Campaign is a great "in to" tbh, Story is nice, and it is quite good in showing a lot of what ArmA have to offer.

Also try to play any version of Antistasi, this is very beginner friendly PvE sandbox mission where you should coquer the map like in Far Cry or Ghost Recon

If you're totally new to ArmA series then maybe some tutorials videos to watch on YT (getting started).

There's a nearly lifetime learning curve ahead, so be patient explore and have fun ... !!!

If you want to play single player, I would recommend going on the steam workshop and looking up dynamic recon ops. Go ahead and subscribe to the Altis map one and trying that out. I absolutely loved this scenario when first started getting used to this game.

Campaign honestly is a good idea, despite your (understandable) aversions to it. Just like the game, it's a buggy mess. But you know what? It does teach a lot, and gets you into the process of learning how to properly PID and identify what belongs to which faction and what patterns factions use for their military. You could go straight into multiplayer official servers but you would be a burden on people if you don't know really basic concepts taught in campaign and training missions.
If you're new to Arma3 find an Arma 3 Exiles server you like the look of an start playing, the majority having roaming AI missions set up where you can team up with friends you find to go kill AI and capture their equipment and vehicles for profit. This will get you familiar with the gameplay mechanics if you haven't played Arma 3 or DayZ before.

From there you can decide if you like the "at war" vibe or the "sandbox/survival and coop" appeal that is very strong in these 2 games, if you can find a friendly non-toxic playerbase to become a part of or at the least co-exist within.

ESCAPE. It is coop, teamplay and you get to learn the mechanics, game terrains (maps) and etc... of the game with a group on your side vs AI

dynamic recon ops

Warlords.

starts infantry based and then slowly progresses into full war, Infantry, Land vehicles, Air vehicles, its PVP but quite fun for a vanilla game mode and quite beginner friendly.

i recommend the campaign for a "first game in the series" type of beginner, (warlords is a good alternative if you want to get into multiplayer) after that you decide what you want to play next, (survival modes, open world scenarios, linear missions and a huge large etc) take your time to learn the basics and you will sink hours and hours of your life in this buggy and ugly piece of beautiful art ;) (aside from that, welcome to the game brother, its good to know that after so many years there are still so much new people that get interested in our little playground of explosions and destruction)

if you want pvp: KOTH (king of the hill)
if you want pve: invade & annex (77th jsoc is what I started with, beginner friendly)
