State of the game for solo/single player?
Hey folks,
I'm wondering how easy the game is to play as someone who doesn't want to play multi/coop, and not mess around with a ton of mods/scripting. Can I buy the game and play some prepared singleplayer stuff? Don't care about story, some repeatable shooty shooty stuff would be fun.

Thanks

Yeah there is a ton of singleplayer stuff that is just action, in the base game it's mainly campaigns and showcases so it might not be in your alley but there are tons of very light mods that let you paly cusomizable dynamic short operations on any map you want. I almost never played multiplayer or ven coop in all my 3000 hours in this game

Arguably it is one of the best games you can buy from a single player point of view, you have a campaign, a bunch of showcase missions and scenario's which offer at least 40 hours game play minimum, if you take you bother with the free roam element you can easily push it up to 60 hours maybe more.

And this is without the icing on the cake which is the editor, which allows you to create your own missions with as much 'depth / effort' as you like. You can literally just place down a squad of enemies, hit the play button and just go shoot them and the AI will respond and it takes like 5 seconds to go from editor to playing the mission.

Alternatively you can just browse the steam workshop and download custom missions of which there are thousands, there are a few very popular scenarios which are quiet literally all about generating random missions on the fly for you got go complete ... indefinitely if you want.

I'm wondering if the OP is getting Arma 3 confused with reforger.

Sure, play the singleplayer content and tutorial menu stuff to learn the game. Then try the campaign East Wind. Or community made scenarios from the workshop. Some multiplayer scenarios (for local hosted server ingame) can also be played solo. So don't rule that out.

My personal preference is Pilgrimage by Rydygier for do-whatever-I-want action across the entire island of Altis. And similarly Antistasi Community Mod solo for more action with AI in a guerilla style war.

Hmm, stburr91 might be right.

Imo Arma campaigns have always been kinda ♥♥♥♥ so making missions myself or downloading mods is the way to go for me. But since you're not willing to do either of those, I'd recommend getting a different shooter for sure.

Thanks all! I'll grab it. sounds like some easy modding will get me there if need be.

any dlc/xpacs worth it for single player?
Valen Jun 30, 2024 @ 9:08am
It depends if you like that kind of gameplay. If you don't care about playing in tanks, don't get it. If you like sniping from a distance, get marksman dlc. If you like singleplayer scenarios, consider Laws of War and Contact. If you like to do a co-op campaign, consider Apex.
Any DLC can be usefull. It just depends on you.

Check the Arma 3 fandom wiki for better explanations of what each DLC contains. https://armedassault.fandom.com/wiki/ArmA_3

Not an DLC but OPEX is definielty worth checking, good exemple of "do what you want with some purpose".
