Arma 3
Dumb server rules
I think forcing people to be on Teamspeak or some nonsense like that just to be able to fly something is annoying. I never understood it except as a way for folks to breath down your neck more and be annoying.

What do you all think are some stupid rules, including grey area type rules involving "disruption" and stuff like that, whereas the sleeve-tugging friends of some of these admins regularly break the rules they purportedly ban others for (including sometimes rules which are not stated anywhere)?

The reason those rules exist is because being a pilot is hard and requires communication.

If you sign onto a server with limited slots for pilots and you don't know what you are doing or you are not using that slot correctly, then it takes away from the experience from everyone else.

For example - invade and annex servers usual have a whitelisted pilot spot. Often times you load up a squad / platoon worth of guys and have to fly more than 10 km away. Nobody wants to spend the time of travel only to die because of stupid pilot error.

Now. Take king of the hill, warlords or any other server without those rules. You can buy a chopper and fly to your heart's content because A- you bought the chopper and you can do as you see fit with your money/CP and B- if you suck, people will notice and not get on your chopper or be bothered with you.

So as a test I recommend going on koth servers and flying for them. See how they react to you if you mess up.

Ah the 77th Jsoc, a public server where the Pilots are expected and required to act as the 'command' staff for the server to keep the thing running as smoothly as possible, where joining TS is a requirement for just 6 very specific, very important players in the server and it is for all intent and purpose simply a test of a persons character, can you read the rules and be expected to up hold them, you can ♥♥♥♥♥ about it all you want but the server is one of the most populated in the game and has been for like 11 years, and has a community of people who understand the rules and just get on with it.

Sorry mate, they aint dumb. Its to prevent "randos" from ruining the game for everyone

77th Jsoc has 6 players playing interchangeably on Tanoa-Livonia and 50 on Altis during the week, a bit more on the weekend (steam is not the best place to describe the mistakes made by this group). Being on TS does not improve the pilot's qualifications in any way, and not being on TS also does not affect the gameplay. Rules are there to be followed, otherwise chaos will ensue. The lack of people to fly with is a bigger problem than being on TS.

I do a little flying with the F18 fairly well when I use the carrier to refit, reload away from Randoms who intend to ruin it all for everyone.

Then strictly use SDB's against enemy Bot tanks and Harms to take out local air defense at 10 miles on approach to AO. When all gone, go away and reload.

This avoids friendly fire and laser games by randos intending to incur losses with killing teammates for pleasure and my loss.

I am deaf and do not do voice, I will respond to special chat requests until target or problem is resolved.

Most of the time its in order and in the server i use, theres several layers of constant air cover thats effective over AO anyway.

Key word a bit of flying. Bought a new 32 inch monitor so I can see stuff effectively from the air now. So that helps.

Same with artillery which itself is usually banned in most servers because again a wild rando can really destroy everyone's teamwork and game experience. That was my first love because it can be very effective on Altis.

Teamspeak is a baseline standard for any unit in this game, so I don't see it unreasonable for a community server to therefore request it's usage for important roles.

The public 55th delta I play on used to require it but it doesn't anymore. They do get a private pilot channel in game that is just for jet, helo, and Jtac tho. No whitelisting either and its just average joes usually with no "expert milsim realistic" mentality. Yea they do get trolls once in a while but people vote kick and record them for a report to staff 99% of the time. Teamspeak shouldn't be necessary unless you have that "realistic" radio mod that uses it.

I keep joining servers I don't like too it's completely retarded but I do it anyway, then I make posts about it, which is even more retarded but at this point I am 100% committed.

There are many servers, if you do not like the rules of an specific one, move on to a different one, or make your own.

If you prefer a more relaxed form of free play without much restrictions, consider the public/official Warlords mode servers of the game. Those are just join, buy some gear and/or vehicle and hop into the action. As long as you do not cheat, intentionally kill allies or such, you should be alright on those.

Each group or community who sets up their own server has the right to set up the rules and ways to play they prefer, keep in mind that they are the ones setting up and owning the server in question, to which you are just a visitor.
