I find this game hard to get into online?

I've only just bought Arma 3 and, sure, I don't know how to play - I'm not all that good at FPS games. But what I can definitely say is that this game has a great sense of community. Even playing on a DarkRP server is great in this game simply because of how integrated this game is with other players! I need to play this game more...but from what I've seen...its incredible

The online expereince is all up to you. There are many ways to enjoy the online portion of this game. Namley King of the Hill, Wasteland, any of the DayZ mods, Exile...

King of the Hill is a sector control mode between three factions, very fun if played on a good server. I recommend the WS. servers (Sumatra).

Wasteland is a sandbox best played with friends or with others in the server. I also recommend the WS. Servers, I've always gotten great FPS on their servers.

DayZ mods and Exile are decent, not really my cup of tea.

Other than that, look for a Mil Sim group that is good for you. Some can be way too obsessed with immersion, others just want to ♥♥♥♥ off and shoot AI. Depends on what you are looking for.

I've done the Mil sim thing, and i had a great time.

That is a lie, you're all fan boys. arma sucks with all its lags, stutter, players spinning emmersion killer, cant join a server unless you have mod installed and every horrible experience. from Arma 1 to Arma 3 i've never played 1 hour of multiplayer, it totally is a garbage.
