Would apex be worth buying just for old man.
I only play solo stuff in arma so i was wondering if old man is any good and if apex is worth buying for it.

Apex is good overall, and Old Man is pretty solid if you like guerrilla warfare. I played the beta, and it was pretty solid. It embraces a more open world feel to Arma (brought to you by the devs this time of course)

Im playing Old Man right now, and I would wait.

As I'm writing this, I'm currently stuck in a checkpoint because apparently the CSAT drone operators don't like checking ATV's and I can't go past the checkpoint without getting shot.

And i had to restart the entire scenario due to a major bug that wouldn't let me progress.

It's a great idea but the amount of bugs makes it unplayable

Apex is on sale and its probably the biggest and best DLC in Arma 3. Go for it. Apex is $7 rn,

So is the scenario just buggy or are there other issues with it?

Pretty buggy.

The concept is amazing, the mechanics and the amount of thought and effort put into it is impressive.

However, Arma III is a military simulator, the mechanics of the vanilla Arma campaigns and gamemodes doesn't always fit into a open world game, for example, this came off the top of my head, but there's a mod on the workshop that transforms the game into a WWII game, and well, that's not very realistic because combat in the 1900's was very different to the combat of today and in Arma III, meaning less units on the ground, and planes going at the speed WWII planes went will fall out of the sky.

(TL:DR: Arma III Mechanics don't fit well into an open world scenario and has caused a lot of bugs in the game)

If Bohemia made a completely separate game, with the same engine, backstory, characters, factions, etc. Just different mechanics to make it more like an open world game, it could open up the game to a lot less lag, bugs, and even new features such as naturally spawned AI, because I'm pretty sure everything was manually spawned which would've been exhausting.

(TL;DR: Bohemia could make a new game to allow more mechanics and get rid of un-needed ones which will allow the game to run more smoothly

I just wanted to offer some positive feedback on this awesome update. As someone who prefers to play SP, I am glad to finally see some SP content that isn't just an appendage to the rest of Arma 3. So far it has played well except for a couple of weird things, but comparing it to hundreds of hours playing Antistasi Altis and some on Tanoa, this Old Man scenario seems optimized. I am playing on a Core2Duo, 3.0 ghz with a 750 ti 4gb gpu. My only issue with Arma has always been the AI squadmates, though, and I haven't been able to use any yet on Old Man. I suspect it is still screwy, but that it won't matter as much as in other scenarios.
I recently bought APEX because it was on sale, I didn't know Old Man was coming out. I had heard the SP version of the Co-Op missions didn't work, but I wanted to use the content in AntiStasi. Turns out the SP works no worse than the vanilla game, but the missions are OBVIOUSLY not for SP.
Now that I know, it would have been worth the full price for Apex, to be able to play Old Man. As I was starting a new Antistasi Tanoa campaign (because my Altis one grew too big for my PC to handle) I was thinking of how much cooler it would be if I had a home like I actually lived there, and if it didn't feel like I was starting a war all by myself. So I was thrilled when, a day later, Old Man came out.
Weird Things, Complaints and Requests:
-Can't turn off home radio, seems to be tied to vehicle radio. Every time I load a save it pops a new radio. Last I checked there was a pile of 8 radios under the coffee table.
-Running into the sofa causes instant death.
-Can't fully repair vehicles (tires, glass). I guess that has always been the case but you ought to be able to park in a gas station garage and pay for full restoration. Not a big deal because there are lots of vehicles and no one minds you taking them, but sometimes I find one I like...
-Civilian population seems almost nonexistent, except for guerillas and malaria victims.
-I wish there were more survival elements: staying hydrated, keeping warm at night in the mountains if it rains, and the need for/ability to store food.
All minor issues so far with Old Man.
Things I Like:
-no arsenal unlock like Antistasi, instead a bottomless crate where you keep what you find, is more realistic.
-Sleeping Bags, the ability to save in the field right before mission execution.
-Solid save system with no apparent inventory loss across all containers.
-Tanoa is awesome, beautiful... this revolution may never get off the ground, I just wanna hang out.
