Arma 3

16gb vs 32gb ram worth it?
*update*
I decide to upgrade to 32gb of ram, 2x16gb 3600mhz and updated parameters, has made a considerable difference on Arma and other games, much smoother, Thanks for all the info

I’m currently using 16gb of ram for Arma 3 and was just wondering if anyone has previously upgraded to 32gb and noticed a difference while playing Arma 3? I know most games won’t make much difference but wanted to check if it worth it for a3, TIA

worth it, if you have a good CPU
I got 32gb, but still arma 3 is badly optimized, so it won't give more than 35 fps in towns

My advice - not *really*, unless you play multiplayer with a metric ton of mods (especially if the mods are particularly unoptimized). 16 GBs should be considerably enough if you don't run a hundred apps hogging RAM in the background while playing.

Thanks for the input, I’m running a Ryzen 5 3600, RTX 2060 and 16GB ddr4 @ 3200mhz and for some reason King of the Hill non modded doesn’t exactly run as good as I would’ve thought it should, every every game no issues just arma 3, got Arma Reforger recently and that runs considerably better

Fixes a lot of micro stutters across a lot of my games when i went from 16gb to 32gb.

It is modded but it's all done mission file side, and done very poorly that its performance gives the reception Arma 3 runs bad, like a lot of poorly made content sadly.

Ah that makes sense, it’s a shame they never optimised it more but going off the performance of Dayz SA and reforger hopefully Arma 4 will be better that Arma 3

Fingers crossed 🤞

Just adding incase anyone has issues on the likes of King of the Hill, in A3 parameters if you don’t tick the box for any of the extra threads and and there’s a certain option for Je-malloc or something along the lines of that out of the 3 options allow that one and it makes a decent improvement, was just getting 40-50fps inside the priority zone…obviously map/city massively effects this

just turn off/down all the nonsense like renderdistance /objekts / optical bling bling ♥♥♥♥

you dont need to have 500000 objekts renderd outside of your own viewrange unless you use a jet

i had 8 gb ram, i3 3210 and 1050 ti before, game ran like...crap.
now i have i7 13700K and 4070 and 32 gb ram, game runs godly.

yeah mate went to 32gb and started using a custom allocator and ♥♥♥♥ runs buttery smooth.
The game optimization isn't no where good 32GB might help a little bit if you are only playing single player, but when it comes to multiplayer it expect low performance when numbers of players increase.

Some parameter tweaks on the launcher may help at some scenarios and you may want to experiment with those, I only hope that one day they will release a new update where the game will utilize more cores and higher vram usage to get better performance.

Ive got 64gb trust me, it still runs slow regardless. Its the engine. I do a lot of graphics editing hence the need, but it really shows no difference in performance.

What ram and allocator do you use? I’m looking into 2x 16gb 3600 mhz (currently have 2x 8gb 3200hmz

bringing view distance down can help too

Yeah I have tweaked the Params and it’s made a considerable difference, I’m probably going to go for extra ram just to future proof my pc a little
