What's the difference between Epoch and Breaking point?
Both seem to be DayZ-esque survival mods without zombies.
I'm downloading Epoch now and Breaking point seems to be a larger file (14 gb compared to 2), so i'm wondering if there's any big differences.

Im not sure on Breaking Point, but Epoch i know about.

Epoch is set 35 years after the DayZ outbreak when civilsiation is returning to the infected lands. However not all versions of the Virus are gone, and with no real goverment power in place, the Land is divided but those who are Heroes, and those who are Bandits.

The rements of the Zombies which still last are called Sappers. The sappers are armless decaying Corpses who when they get close to you whill explode, there are the brown which are small explosions and green which is enough to bring down several large buildings, up to 100m away. There nasty f***ers.

You then have the isuess of the AI forces within the region aswell who are trying to remove anyone not on their side, which when added to the player threat making it a very hostile land, and after that you have the Cultists. The Cultists are fanatics who have managed to get their hands on military equipment and cloak themselves usually only appearing at night without a trace. When they catch you, they will not openly attack you, but stare at you with such terror that your heart will beat faster and your blood pressure will rise untill finally your heart explodes from the pressure. Basicly .. kill on sight.

You also have two other types of enemies however one can never been seen, the Phantons are random encounters which will minic footsteps and open doors, they can not harm you, but they can leave the back open for a real threat to come in.

Lastly is the Mechianical giant, (still in developemnt) a Military Articial Intellegence planted inside a Nano bot, when the outbreak occured the Nanobots combined together and began to create a giant machine upon the area known as the Rock of Creation. This beast is incredibly slow, but to take it down ill require, a full tank battalion, the Air Force, and as many rockets are you can salvage.

-------- Gameplay --------

Its your basic build and survive. Load into the World across one of three traders, move out gather supplies, build a good base, and fight off the AI in any form and other players to either live with the server or conqour it.

Weapons and items are more skeres than other version of the survival so it does make the game slightly harder, but more rewarding when you've building up a badass armoury. Traders are safe zones but usually camped, so if your going to get a vehicle, make sure you watch where you drive in/out land, and walk cause there may be someone in the bushes waiting for you.

---------- Personal Suggestion -----------

Epoch :D I play on a server called OX3 Its a heavily AI patrolled PVE Server where players work together and work with each other, and it includes custom missions. I would suggest this for a more relaxed style of the game, but if you wanna kill players, theres loads to choose from!.

GLHF!

From what I got from the Epoch wiki, sappers are science experiments - they have C4 planted in their torsos, and the reason why they don't have eyes or arms is because they used to go after their handlers to self-destruct before actually going into the field to kill the opposition force.

The bigger, greener sapper is the one you MUST kill at range, as it detonates with the force of at least one Satchel Charge - at least the brown Sappers you can kite and force them to blow up without harming yourself...much. They detonate with the force of a few grenades, and at close range, is lethal.

Oh, if you kill them (with gunfire, explosives, roadkilling), they will leak out toxic, green gas, that lingers around for a good 2 minutes. If they blow themselves up, there won't be any gas.

Also, from what I've seen, there aren't many Epoch servers hanging around - most servers have moved onto Exile, as it's basically the same thing, but with better building, controls (there's an autorun!) and UI. Haven't seen a BP server at all.

Mind you, this is what I'm seeing via the default Arma 3 ingame server browser, not the default launcher browser.

Epoch is the top rated workshop item i think, so i'd guess there's more people playing that but that's just a guess.

Just gonna quote myself here on what I've seen in terms of Epoch servers...

There are Exile servers with "Ryan's Zombies and Demons" mod running, so you get your zombies that way. But 9 times out of 10, there are missions to face off against AI. 50/50 it's PvE.

The story behind Exile is that you play as a convict, and have been exiled to Altis/Stratis/wherever and have to survive. You are given a choice where to get thrown off a plane (read: spawn with a parachute 1km above land). You are given a tablet (replaces the watch, turns on with 6), and basic gear (standard orange prisoner garb, 1 water bottle, map, compass, and the PDA/tablet).

I would really say that Breaking Point is the better of all of them, even still. Epoch and Exile are great if you just love building silly towers into the sky and lots of useless crafting. The actual gameplay doesn't really hold up, though. Breaking Point is PvP focused, but much closer to a survival game. Also, Breaking Point does have zombies, a lot of them, in fact. They will ruin your day if you're not careful. One of BP's biggest selling points is the faction system and the custom ballistic and damage system, which lends itself to very intense combat that Exile and Epoch just can't compete with.

Yeah I loved the survival feel of BP so much
