Arma 3

What are your keybindings like?
I'm just curious what you guys us for keybindings, or if you just use the default ones. I honestly don't like the default keybindings, including all the presets. But I'm quite picky with my bindings though :p

I usually arrange my bindings based on frequency of use and how quickly I need access to them (e.g. sprint button).

These are some of the bindings I've changed that I currently use for infantry movement, based on the "Arma 3 Apex" keybinding preset:

Step over: Space
Crouch/Stand up: CTRL (an old CS habit I guess, heh)
Prone/Stand up: C
Toggle Walk: V
Toggle Combat pace: Z
Adjust stance: Left Alt + W/A/S/D
Weapon zeroing: Left Shift + Mouse wheel up/down
Grenades: Mouse btn 4
Hold breath: Left Shift
Deploy weapon: < (this button is probably only nordic keyboards. It's placed between Shift and Z)
Change Weapon Optics: X
Toggle 3rd person view: Mouse btn 5 (i actually use this one quite a bit lol)

I find this one important: I've unbound hold breath from secondary mouse button, because I use zoom A LOT. I don't wanna waste my breath for just zooming. That's why I use Left Shift for hold breath instead.

I used to use the old default, now the Apex controls. After some time they become intuitive. The only thing I changed always was PPT and direct channel to my thumb buttons. At the beginning I also wanted to remap some, but because of frequent interfering I just played w/ default controls and got used to them.

I use a mix of Arma 2 and Arma 3 controls, with a few custom binds mixed in (1st/3rd person view switching is done via Middle Mouse Button; Reload is bound to one of my thumb buttons; default action is bound to both Space and my other thumb button).

Yeah I considered to just deal with at one point, but I play a lot of FPS games, and it messes with my muscle memory when they are that different :p

Default controls, just changed some chopper rotation keys to rotate with Q and D (AZERTY keyboard).

shift for walk, space for sprint.
A bit odd when i think of it but it's easy to use and i've gotten used to it

Default controls here. With a little bit of tweeking for personal preference.

I use Arma Enhanced Movement and like to use the space bar for the action, but since the space bar is used in the command controls, I delete all functions related to the command features. I also use TFAR and that requires the CAPS LOCK to be removed from the VON funtion.

It's just easier for me like that cause I mainly play Arma 3 and I can remember a 2nd "casual" key binding for battlefield, insurgency or any other FPS as well - it's not a big deal.

Wow, what an amazing mod! This should really be part of the base game! I only play MP, so this mod won't help me much unless the server has it enabled :\
This is really the one thing that bothers me the most in Arma! Yesterday, I tried to vault onto the base of a construction building (only like 1m high or so), but I ended up glitching into the building instead and got stuck..........

My setup consists of...
1. mouse
2. WASD foot controler (I walk with my feet ingame)
3. TrackIr (head tracking)
4. Voice command for everything else.

Since I constantly have my left hand on the keyboard and the right one on the mouse I have refitted most of my controls to be on the left hand side of the keyboard so I dont need to move the hand around all the time. How frequently/fast I need to use a key and if I need to be able to use it while moving was also important.

Inventory: CTRL + T
Compass: Spacebar
Nightvision: Tab
Next weapon/firerate: CTRL + R
Hold breath: Shift (this is just so I can control it more)
Deploy weapon: 2xC
Throw: 2xG
Zoom in and out have been bound to CTRL + Mouse button 4/5

For voip I got completely rid of push to talk/voice over net and bound the channels individually so I never end up talking on the wrong channel.

Talk on Global: Alt + Caps lock
Talk on Side: CTRL + Caps lock
Talk on command channel: 5 (these are not the numpad keys)
Talk on group channel: Caps Lock
Talk on vehicle channel: 6
Talk on direct channel: F

I think that just about covers it all.

A picture is worth a thousand words bro. Just use a screen shot of your settings. I'm a lefty so I do everything backwards, IE.. left hand mouse, right hand arrow keys.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing. I really could need to change the chat/Talk bindings; cycling through the channels can get quite stressful when you're in a hurry :p
