What are tracer rounds and how do they work?
I see many people using tracer rounds. Is there a specific reason for using these instead of normal rounds??

I´m fairly new to the game, so excuse my stupidity.

Thanks in advance,
Toeli

they are used for tracing were your shots are landing

Tracer rounds are used in situations where you want to show the people around you what you're shooting at. They are used alot with light machine gunners, to show others what they are suppressing. I dont really think they change ballistics wise in the game. Altough you kinda put yourself in a spot light when shooting them in the dark.

Tracer rounds are exactly what they are named after, to trace your rounds. Tracer rounds do not hold any advantage over normal rounds since they only have a small fosferous layer on them that burns de to air resistance. the burning wil only be simulated and have no other effects than the light. Normal rounds should always be used, this is reccomended. the tracer rounds work both ways, you can track your shots but the enemy can also backtrace those bullets to your location. Machine guns use this as an automatic function 1 in every 4 bullets are fosferous, this is to let you see where your shots connect in automatic bursts. if you have further questions about arma just sent a message

Advantages: Shows exactly to both yourself and your teammates where your shots are hitting. To show what enemy you are firing at, or to help zero in your shots.
Disadvantages: Shows exactly where the shots are coming from to the enemy. So they have a very easy time spotting you.

commonly used in machine guns and rifles to see when the magizine is running low, arma 3 has a bullet count, tracers are now used to reveal your location and die
