Same universe distintc timeline, Arma 3 is setting in the year 2035.
Arma 2 takes place in 2009 (I think), and so does its expansions. There's no reference to anything Arma 2-related in terms of story, though there are a few ION, Inc. logos and items in-game. For quick recap, ION is a private military company that got their own DLC for Arma 2.
Another bonus is that, in the Virtual Armory, one of the British English voices is of Frost/"Poet", the playable character of British Armed Forces and Private Military Company.
DAYZ is also there but perhaps on an alternate timeline.
Best place to look will be the BI forums.
