7.1 Audio help!
Hey guys, I know that i'm not expected to be able to play arma 3 with 7.1 surround sound as it is designed for optimal performance with stereo sound, at least thats what ive heard. Is there a way that you can play arma 3 with 7.1 sound with the sounds being somewhat normal, for ex. your footsteps arent only in your left earpiece. I have an hp envy phoenix so it has beats audio, so I have to use beats audio control panel if any of you know your way around that. Thanks for thinking of solutions!

According to google the hp envy phoenix is a pre-built PC. So using a 7.1 headset could fix your issue.

I have a 7.1 headset, a nice one at that. And this pc doesn't qualify as prebuilt anymore i'd say. I've replaced the graphics card and put some fans and such in, there was no way i'd settle for what it used to be really.

Well, a new GPU doesn't change your soudn hardware. If you have a 7.1 headset; is your soundcard 7.1? (don't know what beats audio is..so) Are your settings correct?

I wasn't thinking my GPU would change sound at all lol! Yes, like I said, beats audio which is 7.1. (I know you said you didn't know what it was) Also, my settings are all set to 7.1 surround sound in the sound control panel for beats audio. I think I should say that everything else works fine with 7.1 on, just not my games like arma 3 and csgo. I am just wondering if their is a way to adjust settings for 7.1 surround sound purely for in-game sound?

Doing that would make it my 7th check of the in-game settings. I've tried all the "common sense" solutions like in-game settings and such, none of which were solutions, but thanks anyway!

There is a function with nVidia cards that bridges your multi-channel audio across to the HDMI output, but this isn't used for other audio output, but you may see the nVidia drivers installing an HD Audio component and these will be visiblein Device Manager. But that's a sidebar to your OP.

I've always found the 5.1 and 7.1 headsets work after a fashion, although -- and this may be a me problem -- the channel seperation that is available in the confined space of the headset's earpieces are not sufficient to render the full experience. I have found on those rare times that I can use the external sound system and speakers that it definately livens up the experience, but neighbours and the rest of the family usually get a little irritated for some reason.

Your comment however was very helpful, thanks.

I've moved from Stereo (via 3.5mm jacks), to 5.1 (in both home theater as well as true 5.1 via 3.5mm jacks) to virtual 7.1 (via USB) while playing Arma 3 and other games. If anything, it should be available already.

For me the sound is all messed up, for ex. my footsteps only come out of left earpiece until I rotate my camera.

If you have a utility installed for you headset, see if it has a surround editor. I know on mine it had screwed up the centre channel and had it moved to one of the side channels.
