Also, you can press X for auto hover. It isn't very fast/agile when on autohover, but it is good for learning.
Go to the Editor (in the main menu), double click on some point of the map and create a playable unit called UAV Operator (this creates the unit with the terminal). Then double click nearby the player and create some UAVs (darters or whatever).
Hit Preview, and enjoy (if you run out or UAVs, you just exit the mission and hit Preview again).
Tip: This works on everything you want to try such as weapons, helicopters, vehicles. The Editor is used to create your own playable missions so you can do literally whatever you want using it.
You can also test out things in the VR arsenal if you want to get the basic hang of the controls. It is mostly flat so the is no worries about flying into trees and such things. You can also train with fixed wing aircraft if you move from the starting space (the start area has tragets right in front you that block your takeoff) before you summon one.
Thanks Drew.... I think I understand what you are telling me to do.
For the controls of most things you can look them up in the field manual. This can take a lot of the complexness out of learning things. Also don't feel bad that it is taking a while to learn such a complex game. Most of the people who know what they are doing just started before you, and are often just as skilled/unskilled as you are.
And talking about the Editor, just go to the Editor and spend 5 minutes with it, you'll see it's quite intuitive, at least when it comes to basic actions like spawning units (players or NPCs) and vehicles.
Enjoy the game ^^
Edit: And don't be afraid when you join some random multiplayer mission without knowing what to do, the missions are created by the community (as I said, this game is endless) and they aren't as intuitive as in any other game. So just ask what to do and someone will help you.
There is also some links to some video guides somewhere in the field manual that might be helpful.
How do I give a 'thumbs up' or 'like' a comment? LOL... dont even know how to use a forum. :)
You can't in Steam. All you can do is things like
