I think the optics are preconfigured to a certain distance and 300m sounds reasonable, if they defaulted to 0m it would be pointing straight down. At that distance you might even be getting kills by bullets ricocheted off the ground. The ballistics simulation is pretty special imo, Stannis' link above shows it off nicely.

HAHAHAHAHAHA no. even with a 7.62 you have to account for gravity and even wind,
its just that wind would be a pain in the ass to simulate in real time.

Basic Ballistics lesson:

Today Fellow Steam users, we will learn Ballistics.

Depending on how fast/many objects penatrated/far the bullet went, the bullet will slow down and drop.

yes i am quite knowledgeable about bullet physics. im just saying they should be more heavy.
and bullet drop isnt as much as some people think like with my fnfal i can hit out to 600 with it set to 300 and still hit a pie plate

And for everyone else there is VBS3. :-)

Most unadjustable scopes / default scope ranges are zeroed (set) at 200 or 300 already, so naturally you don't see the bullet drop since it's already been adjusted for at that range, not that it "doesn't happen".

If you're unsure, check the value at the top right HUD corner for zeroing, and if you think it doesn't matter, check the markings on the ARCO/RCO scopes to see how much adjustment is necessary for each range.

For wind adjustment e.t.c., wait for the upcoming marksman DLC ;)

Its too bad civilians can't use VBS3, all those ultra realism people would be so happy if they could.

"For wind adjustment e.t.c., wait for the upcoming marksman DLC ;)"

Indeed though all the features such as wind adjustment are completely free!

I have VBS3 because I paid for VBS2. It was a a free upgrade too, as a courtesy.

I don't think it even has wind calculations included.

yeah pretty sure it avaible to public for a price, just like steel beasts which is used for military too, sure theres a small public community behind it too.

BIS have said that VBS will not be available to the public. They only reason we got it was because we had already purchased VBS2. The licensing for VBS2 changed a while back, last year I think to what they started to call Personal Edition customers, which used to be "Serious Gamers" or something similar. We waited ages for a decision to be made on VBS3 and they eventually came through a few weeks ago and we got our HASP keys updated.

Its similar to ARMA 3 in many respects, in fact we have access to all the "Game" assets, which are the ARMA 3 ones. But there are also many other assets that various militaries around the world would have requested and many of these we get, like USMC, US Army, MoD and ADF units.

That live Editor and ability to "review" missions would be all i wanted, most other "extras" I see would only be applicable to a military base.
