If you want a serious military SIM that you can play for thousands of hours go with arma. If you prefer arcady unimaginative copy and paste triple A casual games go with that other one.

Wildlands looks like another re-hashed UBI 3rd-person cookie-cutter console port that will cost $60 + Season Pass to get all content.

UBI has literally trashed the Tom Clancy name...don't fall for their shenannigans, and don't support their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ practices

If you can run it, Arma 3. Community is great and can learn a lot from the game. Ghost Recon is also a great game with friends. It's really based on how you want realism lol

Ghost Recon Wildlands is a casual game that you can quickly play with friends in Co-Op. ARMA 3 (with mods) is a much more tactical military simulator that you can plan missions and be more cordinated.

Only thing that would sway me to GR:W is if they included a mission editor (IGOR 2.0 anyone?) and maybe allowed the use of custom maps.

Unfortunately that would extend the life of the game and UBI don't like anything that would hurt the sales of the copy-pasta new release that will appear in 12-18 months.
