What I would suggest if you want as little as possible showing up is using Thermals that are Orange/White. As buildings and trees tend to be more suppressed on those kinds of thermals as opposed to the BLK/WHT Thermals.

There was a long discussion about this on the official forums about this, it's not something done without reason ... regardless, like the real thing, not an exact likeness / the engine is old AF anyway so it's not possible to be perfect.
