Arma 3
Single player mods and CPU upgrade question
Hello guys

So I felt like coming back to Arma 3 again. I find campaign to be a good warm-up before I join Altis life or something else. Do you have any mods that you'd recommend for Campaign itself? I've got a little stamina boost mod, real engine, ACE (single player version) and something else. Anything that you find to be amazing for campaign?

Also, I am still rocking the old Intel 4790k but with a 2070 Super now. Still, at 1440p resolution I am usually between 30-60 FPS. I know this game is CPU intensive. I have found that lowering my graphics settings does not really add any FPS. I haven't played around with draw distances but what do you think are recommended draw distances?
Also, this game being old, would it even benefit much from a newer CPU like 12900k?
I know 12900k is generations ahead but I just wonder whether Arma 3 utilises multiple cores etc.

thanks in advance.

i'm running 64gb DDR4 2133mhz no issues. I don't expect you'd see any performance increase in arma 3. maybe some other titles but i wouldn't count on much. If you already have usable ram stick with that.

Nah. I'm still on ddr2 for 4790k. That cpu is a beast that lasted me this long (since 2014 perhaps). And Arma is the first game they makes me want to upgrade.

4790k was the staple of the ideal arma 3 CPU for a long long time until the 8700k came out. which is what i upgraded too a long time ago now. 12900k would be the world of difference. I seriously recommend it. Wishing you the best with your upgrade.

Yeah. I've been looking at the prices all day. May ask my mate to bring me one from US to UK as it's cheaper there.
Expensive as hell but if you say it's a world of difference I believe you.
@op the gains form faster IPC speeds and faster ram(two things Arma loves) with the 12900k over your old 4790k will be worth it, especially if playing SP/Co-op/A well made MP server:steamthumbsup:

Looks like it.
Any single player mods you'd recommend?

CUP, RHS
Use ace singleplayer instead of ace when playing the main campaign. If you use regular ACE, you will not be able to heal/revive nor disable explosives when required to complete the campaign.

If you want to blind fire, jump/climb, canted sites, or other movements, check out this collection of mods. (they won't break the campaign)

Download CMA MALLOC and ensure your running Arma3 as admin and unlock large page usage in your system. Disable AV wile playing Arma.

Making clever tweaks like this and others help.

In YAAB iv gone from 32fps results on avg up to 42 FPS by simply making clever tweaks everywhere and im only on an i74790 (non K)

Thank you both.
I would go for AMD before 12900k came out. I'm not a fanboy of one or another but I always lean towards Intel a bit. And 12900k wins, in my opinion. I just read that AMD used to run awfully bad with Arma. An issue, apparently, fixed mostly but I just don't wanna risk it.

What are your draw distances set to?
Also I found this benchmark with a 5800x running 4k with a 3090 benchmark if this helps at all. https://youtu.be/dNOKgftd_Gs Helps illustrate the bottleneck that happens with AMD sadly.
5800x3d not 5800x. 5800x3d > I9 12900k https://external-preview.redd.it/py4RTbMIEtlINt5gyyfB0G6RWKyR5z7r7b08lE4q5AQ.png?auto=webp&s=25305451706addd9f30b1fc4832760d51956542f

Dont bother with 12900k, its a lot more expensive, ddr5 and expensive motherboard but worse performance. 5800x3d is much better single core performance and more cache

https://youtu.be/A-4OOAk-q2E also another bencj mark with arma

Thank you. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I have already bought my components. I did go for 12900k despite its high cost compared to benefits.
I did not realize 12700k would be a great choice because I didn't even think of researching a second best cpu. Ah well, I haven't upgraded since 2014 so I can treat myself.

Unfortunately I am a bit reluctant to go AMD at all, whether it's a CPU or a GPU. I prefer intel and Nvidia at the moment (ray tracing, dlss etc).
I had my components for nearly a month and nearly no time to build anything as I'm very busy right now... Heh.

But i appreciate your advice.

Everything is good but the CPU you'd probably want something a bit better for Arma 3 to run it well. at least a 12600k in my opinion. Everything else is solid.
