No, because you told them to hold fire

Although that is true that is stupid and unrealistic. In arma 2 they would return fire as a self preservation action. If I am sneaking with squad and a enemy soldier spots us because of some radius detection algorithm and starts to shoot us whether the rounds near miss or hit that should trigger and return fire phase that turns off after a given amount of fire. Luckily I have open fire set as a macro to reduce response time but I shouldn't have to manually tell them to return fire it's pretty stupid. I never heard a unit irl act like that.

There may be an option for return fire rather than hold.

What? My AI is shooting back, when the get hit by enemy fire, doesn't matter if i told them to hold fire. Why this different???

What about the line infantry? Did they act like that? No, they would hold their fire unless told to.

I'm new to Arma 3, but it seems to me they do return fire even when told to hold fire. Maybe they don't if they are moving but will if they are holding position. That would make sense anyway.

Your AI squad will return fire if fired upon under a hold fire command, but it seems like only the soldier, or few soldiers, that are "targeted" by the enemy are the ones that will start firing, the rest will continue to hold fire.

Instead of trying to be right maybe just maybe use some critical thinking skills and remember this is not the line infantry era. Different era and different s.o.p. What modern organized infantry that is fighting a known enemy uses that s.o.p. excluding the fact they might be out of range of effective return fire or occupying a civilian area with high risk of civilian causalities?

Looks like somebody struck a nerve with this one.

It's worth noting that by using the "this is not the line infantry era" argument, Agent441 moved the goalpost from "any unit" to "any unit in the modern era", resulting in a very obvious contradiction of his previous argument. Remember that Arma III can, through mods, simulate warfare as far back as the Franco-Prussian war, so line infantry is very much fair game in the grand scheme of things.

He didn't specify the Era

Exactly. I know it sounds like something only suitable in a courtroom, but if you want to win a debate on a forum you have to lock down your statements like you are a Lawyer.

If they are on hold fire mode, it would be very dumb. Because you might want to make Zeus Missions with Achilles in which you can set the AI to Hold Fire so that is why I'm dragging Zeus into this. Anyways, You might want to make a Mission where your players are going undercover, and the AI shooting on hold fire when they get close would break the immersion and mission.

He should expand his vocabulary so he can specify simple subjects.
